in Argentina. The death cerstificate said 'heart failure' - some folk live
for years with that.

I'm still confused about Jethro's death. I don't recall it happening but
suppose I may have missed the odd episode in June '87 but I can't think
why. The book says he was pushing himself at work in the belief David
thought he was too old - he was only 53.

But David would have been 27, so he might well have given the impression
that he thought Jethro was too old.

My grandmothers were Amelia and Hannah. I thought them very

Nowadays it seems to be the fashion to give dogs these dated names.
There is an Elsie living near me and I've heard of an Ethel, too.

During her pre-teens my daughter (born 1967) had a friend named Nancy
and I wondered why on earth her parents had chosen such an old-fashioned
name.

Both my grandmothers were named Winifred. I've only heard of one other
(presents You&Yawn) but suppose there are others around.

I wonder of the televisation of A Handmaid's Tale has/will affect its use?

A friend's children decided to name their dog Alf.

Nah, they replied, ALF the Alien Life Form.

D#2 bought a dachshund puppy in lockdown and called her Nutmeg, which suits
her well. Then she told me they were getting another. Partly as a way to
stop myself querying that decision, I asked if she would be called
Coriander, or similar. No, the children had decided upon Elmo.

Two young women of my acquaintance have named the daughters Penny, in spite
of my warnings against it.
