Yeah, old news. Buy a car and subscribe to enable features already
fitted to the car as standard...

It's been going on in the computer world since the '70s to my knowledge.
It obviously has advantages to the manufacturer, and, in some cases, to
the consumer.

Because leather gets remarkably cold in winter. Maybe not in your part
of the world, but down here it's a different story. Heated seats are
also great if you have a back complaint.

Heaps of manufacturer advantage, but I can't think of any to the end
user. Continually having to pay for something that you would normally
only pay once for is a cunt of an idea.

Because heated seats when its cold is a great idea, wife's Golf has them
and they work very well, warm up quicker than the main heater.
First car I used them on was a Holden Astra convertible, drove around
with the top down on a cold day with the heated seats on and it was very
comfortable.

Especially since the hardware is already installed in the car and paid
for when it was purchased.
Too bad my "new" car doesn't have heated seats, it was optional but mine
hasn't got them so the top stays up this time of year:-)

If you only need heated seats for 3 months of the year, you just pay for
that period, if you don't keep the car too long, as many BMW owner do,
then it could work out cheaper than buying the option outright.

I drive the MX-5 with the top down in single digit temperatures, the
heater seems quite adequate. I drove my Moke through a Canberra winter
with no hood at all, I did have a sheepskin jacket though.

....and you weren't 70+ years of age.

Yeah I know the fraud isn't that old but he's living off a payout from

That's nice. Some people like Kale and Eggplant too, but it's not
everyone's cup of meat.

The last three cars I've had have been fitted with heated leather seats
and they are one of the best accessories you can have in any car in my
opinion. On some mornings getting into a car that's been parked outside
on a cold winter's night with leather seats is like jumping in onto a
block of ice.

I simply wouldn't be without them, and in fact when I ordered a new ute
recently I paid extra for the Wildtrak model specifically because it
came with heated leather seats where the "Sport" model I was considering
did not.

You have already paid for the hardware when you buy the car.

I used to think the same till I used them, its one of those features
that you don't think you need till you have it and then you wouldn't
want to be without it, maybe not much need up north but certainly a good
thing to have down south.

I just drove about 10km in my Porsche Boxster that I bought last week
with the top down, 12.3 deg but the sun was out so it wasn't too bad,
could of used a warm jacket but it wasn't too bad, heater works pretty
good but heated seats would have been nice.

Park the Golf outside at the son's place in Gisborne at night when its
only a couple of degrees, come out to go home and after starting the
engine next the heated seats are switched on, feeling warm in a couple
of minutes instead of driving a couple of km for the heater to warm up.
Heated side mirrors is also a great feature.
