Although Labor won majority government, they had their lowest primary
vote since 1954! due no doubt to disregarding the welfare of their
traditional voting base, the working class, by causing unnecessary
hardship during the pandemic (loss of jobs, businesses, homes, etc.,)
from the most severe lockdowns in the world! the action of an arrogant
Premier pursuing his own self interest. (note: aus.politics ignored as
it's full of lefty trolls)

**"The most severe lockdowns in the world"? Are you sure about that?

You need to get out more. Try visiting China. If you can.

Well, actually, in about 40 major Chinese cities, you won't be able to
get out more, or at all. They lock you in to your apartment/building and
*weld* the doors shut - just to make sure you don't wander. That can
have disastrous consequences when a fire occurs, as it did recently in
Urumqi.

Actually, very little has been on *local* media. I have been following
the situation over in China for quite some time now and this has all
been building up since the earliest days of Covid. Alas, I fear these
protests are too little, too late. The CCP has a lot of control over the
people these days. Expect another Tiananmen Square type event soon.

Felix, I normally wouldnt have any form of reasonable discussion with
you, because you and I both know it will all end in tears, with you
running away hurling abuse over your shoulder, as usual... but the
Victorian election (this one) should be held up as an example for all to
witness.

and before we start, I hate pollies. From ALL sides. With a passion. As
i've said previously. But it seems they are, apparently, a necessary evil.

The below is mostly my opinion only:

1: I sit here and wonder why Dan Andrews and his team (Dan and the
Deadshits) are permitted to publicly LIE about Matthew Guy and his
purported $1 billion health cuts. Since when has a planning minister
removed $1 billion from a health budget? ABC called it out, but that
didnt stop the lies in the Labor advertising...

2: what happened to the the young kid who was apparently hit by Dans
wife? he opened his mouth, and amazingly shut it real quick. (Mate knows
Snr Sgt at Mt Eliza... story goes Dan *was* driving...pissed. no blood
test taken from either. One may ask how much the kid was paid to shut
his mouth...

3: Dan's biggest burden... hiring his union mates (girl in Dans ever
burgeoning office suggested daddy's security company could do it..., and
the flogs went out for macca's runs, had sez with people in quarantine.
slept on the floor allowing those in quarintine to escape..) and Dan
suggested "he couldnt remember" knocking back ADF help. He had "no
recollection", "dont recall", "not my purview"... but fronted up to a tv
camera for 160+ days to tell us how good they are reacting to the
pandemic... Hung his health minister out to dry, and she kept very quiet
during the election too. Amazing. Agreed to an "enquiry" where all real
questions were met with I dont remember. Should have been a Royal
Commision, where you are caught out lieing, you go to jail. Hell, dan
got one happening for Crown Casino, under sufferance, but 800+ mothers,
fathers, grandparents in aged care centres? nah a pissy inquiry where we
can answer "i dont remember" will do.... 6 lockdowns, they build a
quarintine centre, and it's empty....

4: the underground rail loop. Anyone know how much that will cost?
Because by the time it starts, and by the time construction is finished,
they will need to rebuild it from the start again. Surely a rail link to
Tulla is sufficient while Ambulances sit in hospital car parks. ore
hospitals are more important than saving 30 minutes to get to Tulla.
Free Public transport would lower congestion on our roads.

And I could go on and on, but what for? Victoria is saddled with a power
hungry megalomaniac for a further 4 years, and probably 8.

Vic Liberal are done. One liberal suggested they were a car fire. "why
would you get in it?"

**It doesn't matter. Unlike Melbourne, most of China is closed to pretty
much everyone.

Claiming that Melbourne was the most locked down city on the planet is
just massive over-reach. Maybe it was the most locked down city in
Australia. Australia is not the whole world.

Here's the thing about the approach taken by the Victorian government
(and other Australian state governments) WRT COVID:

It worked! And very well. Examine the COVID infections and deaths up
until January 2022 for Melbourne and Miami (USA), where COVID
restrictions were extremely relaxed:

Melbourne:

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=covid+cases+melbourne

Miami:

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=covid+cases+miami

OK, so, you'll say the death figures of Miami are somewhat higher than
Melbourne's. You'd be right. However, Melbourne's total population is
ELEVEN TIMES that of Miami.

So, maybe the Victorian government was too tough. Maybe not. Either way,
A LOT of lives were saved. The early days of COVID required tough, rapid
response. The Victorian government did what was considered to be the
right thing, in the same way that the Florida government completely
fucked up.

What staggers me is that so many people are actually gullible enough to
believe his lies, the money Labor spent on election advertising must
have been massive.
My great great grandchildren will still be paying off Dans debt but no
one seems to care enough to vote him out, utterly bizarre.
Not surprised that Labor won but the margin does surprise me and makes
me think that I must be missing something, only people I know that vote
for him are CFMEU members, everyone else I know hates him so its a
mystery who voted for him?

correct. because you don't engage in reasonable discussion. unless of
course your definition of reasonable discussion is hurling abuse,
insults, criticism, and foul language. anyway, since you're posting
publicly you're not having a discussion with just me.

according to the Age $125 billion! ..

definitely. I never thought I would see the day when ppl would die
waiting for ambulances in Australia! and then have it treated as
somewhat concerning but no big deal! but we don't have a govt that has
it's priorities right. did you know Andrews has 95 ppl on his personal
staff?

they don't call him 'Teflon Dan' for no good reason. nothing sticks.
it's disgusting. he gets away with everything. I think ppl only vote for
him is because of the infrastructure projects he's instigated. never
mind that he's created the largest state debt in Australia, larger than
that of NSW, Queensland and Tasmania combined!

I think someone should organize a new party to represent ordinary
Australians, comprised of the best ppl from all the fringe and minor
parties, and incorporating their best policies

Yeah, I think Felix has a problem with reality there. We had one of the
*longest* periods of lockdown, but most Severe? Get the fuck outa here.

People in China were being *welded* into their own homes....

It was certainly an extensive campaign, but then it needed to be given
the horribly biased media coverage. I think the Herald-Sun had an "anti
Dan" headline story on the front page for almost every day of the 2
weeks leading up to the election :)

> My great great grandchildren will still be paying off Dans debt but no
> one seems to care enough to vote him out, utterly bizarre.

I think the problem is/was not so much a case of people preferring
Labor, but them *not* wanting the alternatives.

> Not surprised that Labor won but the margin does surprise me and makes
> me think that I must be missing something, only people I know that vote

A lot of people apparently :)

This has been the first time in many years that I didn't vote Liberal,
and no it wasn't because I'm a fan of Andrews. I can't stand the bloke
and think there is something wrong with the system where a sitting
Premier can face *five* anti corruption hearings and *still* win an
election.

I didn't vote Liberal because the Liberal Party in Victoria is a fucking
train wreck.

They simply do not have an able candidate amongst them, they have no
idea what they're doing, and they've totally squandered the *best*
chance they've had in years to take office. They went into the election
needing 18 seats to win office, but as of the figures quoted in this
morning's paper the Libs have a 27 seat deficit to the Labor party.
That's an almost unrecoverable position to be in, and it means that not
only will we have to endure 4 more years of this incompetent and corrupt
fucktard, but unless they manage to do something preposterously stupid
in this next term they are virtually guaranteed the win in 4 years from
now, and possibly 4 years after that.

We're in for a hell of a ride...

no maybe about it. there was no valid reason for the curfew for example,
and many of the restrictions made no sense. like not being allowed to
drive to the beach alone and go surfing alone, or sit in a tinney alone
and fish. so many others. meanwhile ppl went crazy locked up in their
homes. and what about ppl who weren't allowed to return to Victoria to
see dying relatives? the only reason we had such draconian measures was
so Andrews could boast he achieved the best result in the country. too
bad for him he didn't.

> Maybe not. Either way, A LOT of lives were saved.

at what cost? ppl suicided, lost their livelihood, businesses, homes.
there was no balance with the measures. the only criteria was to avoid
ppl making contact with each other at any cost.

> The early days of COVID required tough, rapid response.

but not an insane one. why did Andrews reject military aid which was
offered? just so his union mates could get the quarantine jobs.

> The Victorian government did what was considered to be the right

it doesn't matter what Florida did that's irrelevant to us.

Very likely, I voted for an independent candidate not because I have any
particular dislike of the Liberals its just that I think all the major
parties have done bugger all for our area in the last 40+ years.

To experience different cultures though at the moment China isn't an

the mesa pretending to be a mechanic spraying your ignorance about then
it is to experience the real world and be challenged, right, NoddyLiar?

They currently have more than their fair share of imbeciles, and many of
them have expressed no religious views whatsoever. I mean, for fuck's
sake. 2 days before the election the deputy leader and shadow treasurer
gave a media conference where he officially announced the Liberal's
costings for their election promises, and when asked what the total cost
of their plans were he didn't know.

*That's* why they were wiped out.

A lot more would have been saved if the state government hadn't
been absolutely incompetent with the quarantine arrangements. They
just proved themselves to be incapable of implementing anything
practical, except for new restrictions which they left everyone
else to make work. That and the premier's deft skill at dodging
responsibility for his own decisions. The whole thing was bloody
criminal, and also says a lot about what they're like with stuff
that people aren't watching so closely.

The Greens have never done anything worthwhile to this country.
All they are known for is being an arm of the ALP and handing them and
vice versa, preferences at election time.

Labor the best party that Chinese money can buy!

The entire Parliament was sacked, for treason under Whitlam
Constitutionally Parties are not recognised. So when a Government was
found to be removing ties to USA and Britain's orbit moving towards
that of the Communist and Third World powers, with strong support for
the "Arab lobby", Britain and USA would of found that treachery.

Arab financiers offered lower interest rates on governmental loans
than US banks/financiers. The Middle East at the time was awash with
"petro-dollars", as the price of oil quadrupled between 1973 and 1974.
Whitlam allowed Saudi Arabs to build a Mosque in Sydney/Lakemba.
Whitlam was a immoral communist working to remove ties to USA and
Britain's orbit moving towards that of the Communist and Third World
powers, with strong support for the "Arab lobby".
https://is.gd/IzhkxL

Whitlam did not want anti-communists to settle in Australia,
irrespective of whether they were genuine asylum seekers. Here his
stance differed from the position he took following the overthrow of
Salvador Allende's left-wing government in Chile in 1973.

Whitlam said on the ABC that Australia did not want “another
reactionary right-wing minority”. Foreign minister Don Willesee
pleaded with him to take more. Whitlam replied: “I’m not having those
f..king Vietnamese Balts coming into this country with their religious
and political prejudices against us.”

Whitlam opposed the entry of Vietnamese refugees, saying they stirred
no sympathy in him. He added: “There will be some resentment about the
people coming to Australia at a time of unemployment, and also people
from a very different way of life.”

In other words, Whitlam consciously stirred up ethnic and racial
prejudice against Vietnamese because he thought they might be
politically hostile to Labor.
