I uster be sent to the pub for a pint of mild for me Grandad, when I was
knee high to a jumpy thing. Can't remember how much it cost but change from
a florin sounds about right.

About 1/5, first time I paid, and english and Irish money was much the
same. Son was telling me that a pint needed help over 7euri last weekend
in Temple Bar.

NOT glad she's dead but I shall shed no tears, she was VERY pro IRA
(in her early days, she admitted she was talking nonsense in her later
days).
My brother was a 'Brit'[1] when she was spouting all the pro-IRA
stuff so I have never been a fan.
She was fairly obviously mentally ill (she was forever looking for a
life she wanted, hard core Christian, then normal person with 'cookie'
ideas, then Muslim).

When I started primary school in 19 Hundred and f[mumble] we were taught
how to use the Press A/Press B phone box phones so that we could call
for help if we got lost. I do not know how many of us had phones; I had
to remember my phone number (can still rememememember it; my friend Alan
had to remember the coin box number on the corner outside his house. I
do not know how many of us had a phone at home, my Dad had to have a
phone, a legal requirement for his job, I think work paid for it.

Not all the country changed over at once. I think home , in Manchester
had STD when I went to University in 196[mumble] but at University the
phones were still A/B phones.

After I left home I spent some years without a phone and then when I
wanted one I had to waaaaiiiit. Had one of those awful radioactive
warbling 'trimphones'. They were radioactive, the dial was backlit by a
tube containing Tritium. Backlight would be quite dim now, Tritium on
has a half life of 12 and a half years.

The Guardian on-line reports that she was found in a 'residential
address' just down the road from me. It includes a recent photo of her
as she dressed recently. I am fairly sure that I have seen her around,
to nod to in passing, and was mistaking her for the mother of one of my
daughter's school friends.

Small sad world. She did not always have the best options in life.
