Yes, that's why it's collapsing. Erdogan frequently sacks or overrules the head of the central bank and forces the
interest rate down. He apparently believes that inflation is best tackled by reducing interest rates, though it may
really be because his religion forbids usury.

I've only been there once, and it was quite a few years ago, but I was
struck by how westernised the European side of Istanbul was. You could see
local women in miniskirts walking past mosques. I think it's different on
the Asian side, and very different in Anatolian rural areas.

I remember, as a child, women had to cover their heads when entering a
catholic church, and the more conservative[1] anglican churches.

I was waved away from the cathedral in Zagreb when wearing shorts, and
women had to cover bare shoulders. Some Brethren churches may still have a
basket of headscarves at the door for women who have failed to bring their
own. See also the traditional dress of the Bruderhof communities - there’s
one near Hastings, I believe.
