In the press I saw an article suggesting that England wound only want
one spinner for this summer's Tests, and that that spinner would be
Leach. With the "old" England that would doubtless have been right, but
under the new regime I think you could well be correct that will be
Reham.

I look at everything with an eye to the next Ashes. With only 3 Tests (2 vs NZ, 1 vs Ireland) until then there's not a lot of chance for Reham to get overs under his cap.
Leach has been ok, but only that.

England play 2 tests in NZ in Feb 2023, and as the 1st is at Tauranga, they might
want to give Rehan a go there.

Hes been very expensive, but has taken important wkts, and often made the breakthrough

Stokes doesn't care one whit about expensive - it just means the
batters have got more runs to get - as long as the bowler is taking
wickets.

They've won 9 matches in which they've taken 20 wickets every time.
Pakistan supporters may complain about a reckless attitude towards
getting those runs, but they say not a word about how good the bowling
is or, more importantly, how well Stokes captains them and sets fields
for them.

He doesn't have much of a plan - he puts bowlers on when he thinks
they're the right guy to take a wicket at this point in the innings.
Since it works, the players are quite happy now to do what he wants
and don't get upset if they're not given the new ball or someone else
gets a go before them.

Isn't it depressing to have a captain who cares nothing for tradition
and just wants to have fun trying to win games of cricket?

I also notice that McCullum is encouraging him to go to the IPL and
talking him up before the auction. Stokes and McCullum both reckon
he'll learn a lot more in the IPL than he would on English spring
greentops. So I'm not so sure that Leics will be seeing him in May.

I'm a little surprised he's turned the IPL down. It's not so much the
money, but rather how many overs is he likely to get to bowl if he plays
on typical English early season pitches?

He turned it down to begin with and then the story goes, coach had a
chat with him and now he's in the auction.
