I think with the Ashes likely gone assuming tomorrow gets washed out, I wonder if Anderson and Broad get their feet up. But Wood with 3 days to recover, too? They're probably all spent, mind you I'm sure the Aussies are creaking a bit. Cummins presumably can't rest himself?! I'm predicting England with Rehan/Woakes/Tongue/Cook and Aus with Cummins/Abbott/Neser/Murphy...

If there was no play today, that would effectively be 4 days, and he
only bowled 4 overs yesterday (and the pace bowlers collectively only
bowled 17).

Yep. It's frustrating as from the rainfall radar it's looked as though
had Old Trafford been 50 miles further south they might have had almost
a full day's play.

well the Ashes remain in Oz with the World Champions "New South Wales" :-)

I dont think Australia are World Champions as India has beaten as in the last 3 or 4 series with 2 of them at home.
And England has played the cricket I would like to see Australia play , attacking cricket and I am looking forward to the
next Ashes in Australia .

After 4 Tests I would rate the play as England 52 and Australia 48 . All up England has been slightly the better side

i wonder how many of either side will be there? For england , maybe duckett and creepy, pope if his
shoulders are in 1 piece, tongue maybe, yobbo? it must be doubtful that any of the old guard and
stokes will be there. Maybe not baz either? Could bazball survive without those 2 to direct it, is it
just maybe a temporary fad?

>
> After 4 Tests I would rate the play as England 52 and Australia 48 . All up England has been slightly the better side

well thats generous, but the fact is that in each of the tests when oz were in trouble someone saw them through,
even at headingley, marsh almost did the business by himself, and at OT, that 100 by Marnus meant that
england didnt have any chance in what play there was to run through oz for an unlikely win.

an oz journo i saw quoted on the BBC wrote:
"It's hard to tell when the rain stopped and the tears started but this much is certain - England's Ashes bellyaching
has just become too much," he wrote, insisting that the home side only have themselves to blame for throwing
away good positions in the first two Test matches.

"The best thing about this enthralling series, by far, has been Baz Ball. It is captivating and brilliant. But the
most tedious thing has been how in love England are with themselves about Bazball.

"Scoring runs at seven an over is breathtaking to watch, but it's not ending world hunger or reinventing the
wheel and at some point England needs to face the fact that for all their trailblazing bravado, they have, for
the second time running, failed to win the Ashes on home soil."

and another:

"Despite being robbed of victory by the weather, England have only themselves to blame for being on the
wrong side of history.

"It could have been so different. England were in charge of the first Test at Edgbaston before the cult
of Bazball resulted in an overoptimistic declaration and reckless batting. This opened the door for
Australia to snatch a dramatic two-wicket win and control the series."

hard to disagree with any of that.

plus the reason why the oval test starts on thursday is to get the ashes finished by August so the
100 can start with all the big players. the fact is that for the ECB the ashes isnt the main event
of the season or the hilite, thats reserved for the 100.

Brook, probably.

There's no reason why Root shouldn't be there if he wants to - he'll turn 35 during the series.
