I used to use E-S, it generally runs OK, but then it can have periods of not
running so good. However, since it's free (or more accurately donations
optional), I never liked to complain about it when it was having problems, so I
moved to a paid service.

Look hard at the subject. It hasn't anything to do with which OS and news
reader/mail tool are best. It is all to do with using crappy free news servers.
NOT free news servers in general.
