Alas, the Shed has lost much of the je ne sais quoi (WOCAB) culture
that once made it such a special place. It has little to distinguish it
now from many other froups, so some get their Usenet fix elsewhere.

It shouldn't be a problem. I have had a shower this year.

My old Aunty Ada used to bath me religiously every Friday evening, in a
galvanise bath in front of the range in her living room. Water heated
from vast jugs filled at her copper in the kitchen. I would get a good
scrubbing. (Probably still have the scars.) Mined yew that was the same
water Uncle Bob had just got out of.

Quite so. Younger Son's good lady is Polish; she very kindly presented
me with a grandson a couple of years ago. It's really good to have a
grandchild near at hand; my granddaughters are down under and that's
too far for me to fly these days, it's a bloomin' long flap, so it is.

Luckily it was just a hard bath brush with a long handle. She used to
threaten me with the other one that she used for scrubbing floors, if I
didn't sit still.

I sat still.

But that long handle could reach a long way under water!

Ours was a Sunday. Rest of the week it was 'top and tail'.

Then came puberty and the bathing moved to everyday (I had to, puberty
was a very aromatic time for me).

Only 61 so never experinced the bath by the fire (well did at my first
house [a one bedroom flat; mum, dad, and two boys] but we left there
when I was five, so no real memories)

One of my aunts lived in a place with a single outside loo and no
bathroom - there was a galvanised bathtub thing hanging on a nail in the
back yard.

As far as I know thats how it was until she died in 1981
