- ZXR400, stolen from outside my flat and never recovered, 2002. I went to the pub, got pissed, and reported it stolen on the way home.

- KTM Duke, 2011, stolen from outside the hospital when I was visiting darsy, and found abandoned in Clerkenwell by a couple of beat cops at 3am two days later. I picked it up that morning, got it going with a screwdriver, made it rideable with some cable ties, and had it fixed up.

- KTM Duke (the same one), 2011 (3 months later) stolen from outside my office and never seen again. Not by me, anyway. Was mostly pissed off I'd spent the money having it fixed up after the first time.-

I think it's just the two bikes though. The rest I've either sold or dismantled after crashing them.

Someone tried to have away with my KTM SMT - brave of them to think it'd get far without breaking down. They bust the steering lock, were defeated by the immobiliser, and nicked the only thing they could find in the topbox, which was an empty bag.

I once had a bike stolen in Nottingham.
Actually 'stolen' is a bit of a stretch because I saw it being wheeled
across the road away from where I had parked it. I was walking towards
the scene as they (One black one, one white one) decided they couldn't
start it and left it on the pavement and disappeared. I called the
police and Aunty Carol for recovery as they had fecked up some wiring
which I couldn't fix on site. While I was on the phone, one of the perps
returned in a different jacket, looked at the bike, looked at me and
walked off. So, I gave good descriptions to the police who invited me
to view mugshots - none matched, so that was it. I just sorted out the
wiring later myself.

That was it until about five years later I was driving a van down the
same bit of road and the perp who had returned just happened to be
crossing the road on foot. We were about half a second different in
space and time. How different it could have been.

Ah yes, that was a separate occasion. The above list was all taken in
one go.

The pond's a bit overgrown at the moment, I've really no idea how many
fish are there, I'd imagine there are still a lot. I don't think Coypu
eat them, but I did see a heron having a look the other day.

Sounds like a plan.

The Auberge has opened up again with a new owner (The last one wasn't
all that). This guy is Belgian, we had a really good meal there the
other day, Set menu of 27 euro, deffo the best piece of veau I've ever had.

I don't know if I count as "city folk" (at the end of my street there's literally a field...with, you know, wild shit just growing, and sometimes deer just hanging around) however, I think some lateral thinking could be applied here. Why not continue with the hotel you have in Sutton, and put your bike round at TOG's place, a 15 minute walk away.

I do tend to not park the bikes overnight in such places, and chose
hotels accordingly (if only I had thought more about my Monday parking).
And I have shite bikes that no one with a sane mind would pinch.

Last time I went to a gig, in Cardiff[1], I stayed in a city centre
Travelodge. I parked the bike outside the hotel, chained to a lampost. I
used an ancient Oxford Magnum chain and padlock. I was able to ride the
bike home.

I was riding a 3 year old BMW R1200RS, the best sport touring bike, not
some Japanese wannabe :P

I'm not a streetwise city person by any means, but that looks like
a reasonably secure place to me. Certainly better than leaving it
in the parking structure, out of sight.

That could work out expensive, when you get a ticket for parking the bike on the pavement. This isn't France.

I'd probably opt for the shopping centre car park just up the road. It's not particularly expensive (certainly cheaper than a ticket) and closed overnight so the bike would be reasonably secure. The real answer is public transport, obvs, but you've already discounted that.

Just Park website it doesn't list that car park, which is not entirely
helpful.
