That could be good news for Politician's Brother-in-Law Train Supplies
(Cayman Islands) Ltd, and bad news for people who know how to build trains.

Fair enough. Though in europe they solved it much more elegantly by putting
pressure relief boxes on the front of some of the tunnels so it builds up
gradually and you don't get the boom. Interestingly the entrance to the tunnel
going southbound on the piccadilly line at southgate has a staggered reduction
in tunnel size presumably for the same reason.

Just because I said the 710s look fugly? I stand by that, they do, they could
give some of these jap trains a run for their money.

That yellow thing looks very much like a Tyne and Wear metro.

I think our class 458s and 175s are bloody ugly. And the story goes that when
Chris Green saw one of the Class 317 trains he'd found himself in charge of he
swore that never again would he allow something that ugly to be introduced onto
his railway. Personally I don't mind the look of a 317 or 156.

I agree, but those criteria would have been spelled out and the bids should have
been evaluated transparently.

The specification for the trains will have been described in the tender
documents as will the evaluation criteria. If the purchaser then bases its
decision on something other than the published criteria then it's made the
tenderer waste millions of pounds on the bid and they deserve compensation.

I imagine that's the basis for the court cases and I don't find it hard to
believe that the DfT played dirty.
