I know, but it's a FB thing, so has to go there. I can assure you I'm no
fan of FB myself. But it has now become the standard mass communication

I only use FB for communicating with groups of people. I wouldn't dream
of using it for personal communications. There are people that believe
that is the *only* way to communicate with groups and that's why I'm
forced to use it. BBSs have all but died and usenet has almost gone.

I am actually still subscribed to a BBS. It's called textkit.com and it's
for Ancient Latin and Greek. I'm learning classical Latin to keep
altzeimers at bay. And for a laugh, of course.

That was relatively recent: the aim was to avoid offending outsiders /
stray family who might wander in by mistake, Not Our Kind Of People,
that sort of thing.

I love FB. If I didn't have FB, I'd be forced to find some other way of
wasting half my waking hours. Besides all the music, dance,
architecture, and other arts it shows me, 90% of my daily laughs come
from FB. without FB, I'd be really depressed. OK, even more depressed.

I actually take my FaceBook neat: never bothered with the filter
add-ons or whatever they are. Most ads I simply don't notice, unless
they're very persistent and very off target.

Conversely I've become so used to ad blockers both for browsers and
phone apps, together with replay-TV where skipping the ads is almost
automatic, that I can't stand to see them. At all. If I'm watching
something 'live' that comes to an ad break I'll switch to something
else and come back to it later so I can avoid them.

I used maxthon for a while - pretty good but then I started to get
paranoid about the chinese element being the inverse of what it was
supposed to be...

These days I am a devote of Vivalid* which seems to do everything a
browswer should and yet has easily accessible privacy options.

*Setup, so I am told, by one of the original team behind Opera which
went far too 'Chromy' after version 12.18 which is when I went to
Maxthon, then SeaGibbon and a couple of others before finding Vivaldi
looking like Opera had previously done.
It is also good for Windoze, Linux and Android :-)
