to have disturbed me and to have a nice day. Click.

There was a CLI number, otherwise my phone would not have rung. So just
in case I phoned back. "This number cannot be contacted" or some such.

I contacted, through the interwibble, MedicAlert, a genuine aids (not
AIDS) company, notice the subtle difference in name. They came back to
me, telling me, not one of ours and they do not cold call, and that they
were well aware of these attacks and were co-operating with Action
Fraud. I have also contacted Action Fraud and given details to them.

Clues; out of the blue phone call; "from our records", but they did not
know my name; they wanted to know my date of birth; it smelt.

Good things out of it; reminds me that I still have my wits about me,
and to keep them sharpened; I really should investigate an alert
bracelet; a medical alarm would be a good idea.

I had one of those last summer, but on my credit card, rather than from
the onax.

Card provider was unable to help with details over and above what
appeared on the statement, suggested that I spoke to Amazon. Amazon UK
were helpful, apart from not being able to supply details as the
transaction was on the Amazon Mexico site. Amazon international however
were interested (I goove), but suggested that in the absence of a
transaction reference (which they said should appear on the
statement)(a), they couldn't get any details, but strongly suspected
that it was a false transaction.

Back to the card company who agreed to refund the sum, and then
cancelled the card and issued a arj one.

(a) It looks as though I only get a reference on the statement if the
transaction is directly with Amazon, if it is with the Amazon
Marketplace, I don't get one.

I have one too (not one two) linked directly to our sheltered
accommodation red chord system.

Response is pretty much immediate vocally. I haven't had cause to test
physical response (yet).

However, the Truecall system I put in some years ago now has paid for
itself many times over in lost time disturbances etc. It will only call me
if the caller is on my white list, otherwise the phone is silent. It will
instead ask the person to speak their details, and then call me to say
whoever it is to me, and if I want it I click one but if its a time waster I
dump it and put that number on my block list and if its somebody I want to
speak to, put them into my white list, so they get straght through.
Occasionally I get the odd recording of an automated system so I just delete
it.

That sounds like a spec for a really useful smartphone app - one
that makes use of all that CPU, memory and DSP and does something useful
with chatbot technology all to improve the primary function of the device.

It is becoming a Le Carre nightmare. Is this a genuine letter, card,
phone call, who is the mole, is this an XX and so one.

Personally I have gone back to my cheque book, where ever possible. It
gives me time to think, write the damned thing out, cheque it, write an
envelope, double cheque and post it. Then I have the stubs to cheque
back to my statement. Between posting and presentation, if it starts to
smell fishy then the cheque can be cancelled.
