I need to be more gentle with you nospam because (a) you have no education
to speak of, and (b) you have no work experience in technical fields, but
more importantly, nospam (c) you don't know iOS any better than I do.

What part about having to hit that "Apple ID Verification" prompt ten,
twenty, thirty times a day didn't you see me mention many times already?

Did you read even a _single_ word I said, nospam?
Did you look at even a _single_ screenshot I created for you, nospam?

Again, I need to be gentle with you nospam because if you were at Silicon
Valley startups like I was for decades, you couldn't last a day.
<https://i.postimg.cc/bJPKDSZ1/osupdate04.jpg>

It's clear you know less than I do about iOS, so I can't get it through your
thick skull that I hit that iCloud button (duh) and it forces a login that
can't work even with the _correct_ login and password (duh).
<https://i.postimg.cc/8zSvshQf/appleid04.jpg>

You couldn't last a day in college either nospam, let alone graduate school,
always being so wrong about so many things that were told to you many times.
<https://i.postimg.cc/SKGfmgnK/appleid05.jpg>

At least I back up my claims with proof. I do that as a courtesy to all the
Usenet folks, since I am a kind soul, helpful, and always caring for good
people.

Again, you wouldn't last a day in any technical enterprise nospam.
You know _less_ about iOS than I do if you don't understand what happened.

What part of that button doesn't work can't your little brain comprehend?

I realize you have no education nospam, and I realize you have no technical
expertise whatsoever, but you need to learn to read what people write before
you claim to hand them an empty sheet of paper with the solution on it.

Because your answers are no better than a blank sheet of paper, nospam.
They're just not.

>> Apple won't let you back in!

You never fail to drop to the level of a kindergarten child, nospam.

You couldn't last a day in a Silicon Valley startup.
Even Steve is smarter than you are as he at least lasted years.

>> Because it was fabricated (for privacy reasons, nospam).
>

The login is correct.
The password is correct.

The answer to the challenges that Apple asks me are what are bogus.
What part of that don't you understand yet?

>>
>> On Android, you don't need a login to the mothership, nospam.
>
> you do if you want to use the play store.

Again, I have to realize you have no education nospam, so you say stupid
things that are so wrong that _everyone_ else knows they're wrong.

Except you.

Saying it again won't help you, but clearly you don't know the first thing
about iOS or Android if you make claims that easy to refute, nospam.
Unless you're playing silly games about the Aurora anonymous login.
In which case, you're just a kindergarten kid all over again, nospam.

If you were in any technical company, they'd fire you for incompetence
before the end of the day.

>>> Those _are_ the correct logins and passwords, nospam.
>
> how can they be, if by your own admission, you don't know what the
> email address is?

I'm talking about the _recovery_ email where, again, I have to be gentle
with you as you've never handled anything difficult in your entire life.

If you were in even an undergrad college class, and you answered the
professor's questions this way, you'd get an F and booted out the door.

In summary, you don't know iOS any better than I do, but the fact remains
that my point is aptly backed up that to put data on the iCloud is to risk
losing it all, at the whims of Apple (who perhaps simply dislikes VPN).

These iKooks always blame the users for all the things Apple designed wrong.

As proof that nospam doesn't know anything about iOS, even the basics,
notice that you need to have iTunes installed on Windows in order to _not_
have to hit the TRUST popup every single time you connect an iPad.
<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202778>

Even though nospam pretends to know iOS (he doesn't), what is sadistic of
him is he sends innocent people on fruitless wild goose chases by
_pretending_ to know something about iOS (when he knows less than I do).

Having never in my life ever met someone as unprepossessing as is nospam, I
am dismayed that purposefully unhelpful people like he is, actually exist.

This is actually how Apple _designed_ iOS to work, shockingly enough...
9:35PM you connect, you trust, you use it and disconnect
<https://i.postimg.cc/hvCnqdj4/trust01.jpg>
9:36PM you connect just a moment later - and you have to do it all over!
<https://i.postimg.cc/qMzV3gqn/trust02.jpg>

That's how idiotically Apple designs things when it comes to cross platform.
And yet, nospam constantly tells us "you're holding it wrong".

These iKooks always blame the users for all the things Apple designed wrong.

It says nothing of the kind.

You're either a liar, or to stupid to read plain English.

"IF you're using iTunes, click Continue."

"IF you downloaded iTunes for Windows from the Microsoft Store, make
sure that iTunes Mobile Device Helper is enabled as a startup item."

Now:

What does "IF" mean in English?

We don't want your pictures in the cloud either!

Yeah, they probably - try to - link on name, IP address and phonenumber
(if any).

At the moment, on my computer Google lists my accounts and those of
SMWMBO and LSMWMBO, whose accounts have been used on my computer/IP
(SWMBO also shares the same (WAN) IP).

If your smartphone is an Android phone, you might "find no need to use
cloud services at all", but you do *have* cloud services (Google Drive,
Gmail) and might even - possibly unknowingly - *use* the for syncing/
backup of (some of) your settings and data.

I uninstall/disable/halt as much of such crap as I possibly can. I have
one GMail account, necessary for managing my website's indexing by
Google, and website management is all it's used for. Google Drive is
either uninstalled, disabled, or halted, I forget which.

All you iKooks are posers as you _pretend_ to know something about Apple.
Apple is the antithesis of privacy.

The only place Apple is private is in their bullshit advertising slogans.
Attempt privacy risk Apple lockout & then destroying your investment.

The facts remain facts:
a. To own an iOS device is to risk Apple unilaterally destroying it.
b. To use the iCloud is to risk Apple unilaterally locking you out.

All you have to do is _not_ log into the Apple tracking servers.
(Or, log into the Apple tracking servers using the privacy of a VPN.)

Facts notwithstanding, I need to be gentle with people like you are, nospam,
because (a) you have no education at all, and (b) you have no technical
experience at all, and (c) you know iOS even less than I do (& I never claim
to be an expert in iOS so you really do not know anything about iOS nospam).

You are a poser.

You would be fired the first day on the job if a customer shows you what I
showed you and then you said the completely _ignorant_ things you just said.

1. Apple "ID Verification" prompts come up ten, twenty or more times a day.
<https://i.postimg.cc/LXzB3Lc0/appleid01.jpg>
2. Apple "Sign-in to iCloud" prompts come up a dozen or more times a day.
<https://i.postimg.cc/Y9kkj19v/appleid12.jpg>
3. Apple won't let you sign in even with the _correct_ login & password.
<https://i.postimg.cc/8zSvshQf/appleid04.jpg>
4. The Apple web site is so poorly designed it doesn't even tell you why.
<https://i.postimg.cc/SKGfmgnK/appleid05.jpg>
5. Eventually, as it did with one of my iPads already, Apple destroys it.
<https://i.postimg.cc/g008YhxP/appleid02.jpg>
<https://i.postimg.cc/q75t7MSk/appleid03.jpg>
6. On my 2nd iPad, the Apple apps stop working (but everything else works!)
<https://i.postimg.cc/hhFNJ5mq/appleid010.jpg>
7. Every single day, many times a day, you're confronted with tracking crap
such as this "Some account services require you to sign in again"
<https://i.postimg.cc/nrFHSvby/appleid11.jpg>
8. Interestingly, you can update your iOS (which I almost never do) as shown
here where I updated this week from iOS 13 to iOS 15 (and it let me).
<https://i.postimg.cc/nLjqk2HD/osupdate03.jpg>
9. And you can wipe out your Siri recordings (due to the recent zero-day).
<https://i.postimg.cc/sfZ0XP71/osupdate02.jpg>
10. Yet Apple tracking servers still require "Apple ID Verification"
<https://i.postimg.cc/gj0r2cBP/osupdate01.jpg>
11. And, you can install an app, but if you delete it, you can't re-install.
<https://i.postimg.cc/bJPKDSZ1/osupdate04.jpg>
<https://i.postimg.cc/ZR5mZ287/appleid07.jpg>
12. In the end, if you attempt that forced validation on VPN, Apple
unilaterally destroys your investment by locking you out of it forever!
<https://i.postimg.cc/q75t7MSk/appleid03.jpg>
13. All because Apple tracking servers _require_ periodic ID verification.
<https://i.postimg.cc/8k3GQyj4/appleid09.jpg>
<https://i.postimg.cc/q75t7MSk/appleid03.jpg>

All this happens if you don't log into Apple tracking servers periodically.
(And because you used VPN in the Apple-tracking "ID Verification" step.)

>> Simply because I haven't logged into the iCloud manually for four years.
>
> then whatever might be there is obviously not important to you.

And yet you don't understand a single thing about how iOS works, nospam.
That's because you only do _exactly_ what the walled garden asks you to do.

I don't.
I don't want to be tracked by Apple which tracks everything you do.

You only know Apple slogans, nospam.
You have no comprehension of what Apple actually does.

Again, it's because of three fundamental correct observations about you:
a. You have literally no education whatsoever
b. You clearly have no technical experience
c. As a result, you know iOS even less than I do

BTW, almost _everything_ is poorly designed at Apple, even the trust prompt.
<https://i.postimg.cc/hvCnqdj4/trust01.jpg> 9:35PM PC trust established
<https://i.postimg.cc/qMzV3gqn/trust02.jpg> 9:36PM PC trust required again!

Notice Apple never bothers to tell you that the prompt will come up forever,
every single time you connect to a PC that doesn't have iTunes installed!

Both Frank and Java Jive are correct in that you "can" use cloud services on
your Windows and Android devices if you want to, but none are required.

For example, Android works just fine without any login whatsoever.

For the common operating systems that I own, this is the login requirement:
1. Windows 10 ==> no login is ever required for full functionality
2. Android 12 ==> no login is ever required for full functionality
3. iOS 15 ==> unfortunately, not only is a login required, but if you do not
log in, Apple will eventually unilaterally _destroy_ your
expensive iOS device (with no known recourse allowed).

Think I'm joking?
<https://i.postimg.cc/g008YhxP/appleid02.jpg>
<https://i.postimg.cc/q75t7MSk/appleid03.jpg>

Look at these facts.
<https://i.postimg.cc/8zSvshQf/appleid04.jpg>
<https://i.postimg.cc/SKGfmgnK/appleid05.jpg>

Note that if you follow all the walled-garden tracking rules (e.g., never
sign in using a VPN and frequently sign into the Apple tracking servers),
then this likely won't happen to you.

But I don't follow the walled-garden tracking rules.
So it _did_ happen to me.

Be forewarned.

That was an older camera, which I no longer have, and an experience with
Windows XP. With my current camera, it does behave as you say. Using the
SD card still seems easier.

My smartphone (Samsung S10e) was a little more involved, since the PHONE
added a prompt (asking if I wanted to allow data).

I don't object to cloud storage, only to DEPENDING on cloud storage. It
can be a useful backup to a copy you have locally, never an alternative
to it.

Of course if you have multiple cloud storage providers, it's unlikely
they'll all fail at the same time, but I'd still feel safer actually
HAVING a copy of my stuff.

nobody is advocating *only* cloud.

local and cloud copies each address different failure modes. both are
part of a solid backup strategy. only using one is a greater risk.

for example, if your neighborhood is destroyed by wildfires, as was the
case in parts of california recently, you will no longer have any local
copies anymore. they're ash.

it's highly unlikely that *any* cloud provider will fail.

they sell reliability and do a *far* better job at it than anyone could
possibly do on their own.

If you have a 'Gmail account', that is part of a *Google account* and
that Google account also has a Google Drive, i.e. space on some Google
server(s). You may not *use* that Google Drive and might uninstall/
disable/halt/<whatever> the Google Drive *clients* on your device(s),
but you still have the cloud copy. AFAIK, the only way to get rid of the
cloud copy (of Google Drive) is to delete your Google Account, which
also deleted your Gmail account and email.

Just login to your Google Account and go to
<https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive> and see that it's there (and
what's there.

My - stripped - point was just that even when you might "find no need
to use cloud services at all", you do *have* cloud services. That's all.

It's like people who 'only use Gmail' say they don't have a Google
account. They do have it, they just don't use (the rest) of it.

Anyway, your Gmail storage is part of your overall Google account
storage (default 15GB), which Google lists with a cloud icon! :-) So -
as others also mentioned - considering using 'someone else's computer'
- especilly Google's Gmail - as *not* using cloud services is semantics
IMO.

I think your whole argument is merely semantics, and rather pointless -
I think most people here would understand exactly what I mean when I

I doubt it.

What most likely happened, based on my extensive Android tests, is Andy
_logged into_ one of his 'other' Google Accounts on the _same phone_.

Depending on which Google apps Andy logged into, they _associate_ that
Google Account to the phone (by creating a new account on that phone).

The simple way to test is to delete the account on the phone and try again.

Again, I seriously doubt Google added an account purely on account of your
IP address.

Think about it.

That's completely illogical as _lots_ of people can share an IP address.
What's _more_ logical is what I claimed is likely the case, Frank.

As part of the Apple walled garden, do you _also_ have the iTunes
abomination installed on your Windows 10 PC?
<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202778>

I get this TRUST query _every_ time I connect iOS to Windows 10.
<https://i.postimg.cc/hvCnqdj4/trust01.jpg> 9:35PM PC trust established
<https://i.postimg.cc/qMzV3gqn/trust02.jpg> 9:36PM PC trust required again!

But I don't have the iTunes abomination installed on my Windows 10 PC.

Notice Apple products work fine _inside_ the walled garden, but if you leave
the walled garden for an extended period of time (like I did), you risk not
only losing all your data, but also Apple will unilaterally destroy your
device (and I'm not joking) if you try to log back in using VPN.

flawed comparison.

the risk of a random business failing has *no* relevance whatsoever.

the proper comparison is the risk of data loss with a major cloud
provider (google, microsoft, amazon, apple, dropbox, etc.) versus data
loss with local storage, i.e., a hard drive or ssd.

Just FYI... with NitroShare & KDE type apps, it's even easier than USB.

NitroShare: <https://nitroshare.net/android/>
KDE Connect: <https://kdeconnect.kde.org/download.html>

Note that KDE Connect does a lot more than does NitroShare, but the point is
that both do file sharing between Android & Windows without needing USB.

Your loss of data is guaranteed to be 100% on the iCloud, nospam.

If you want to prove that 100% chance of data loss on the iCloud, just log
in using VPN and you're almost certainly guaranteed to lose all your data if
you haven't logged into that account for years.

Ask me how I know this fact.

One already has.

And it was pretty funny, too.

An early adapter of that service, uploaded 20GB of stuff.
Took him about a month to do it. And then one day, he
couldn't contact the server and the Cloud business had
shut down.
