I can kinda understand if it's the 'entertainment' system* but for the
A/C, absolutely not. I just want to be able to put my hand out and press
a button while still keeping my eyes on the road. My brother did add the
option of a control panel/entertainment/phone to his previous car which
was a bargain at £1,000. My thoughts were, my phone can pretty much do
all of that.

The other issue is it's just yet another thing to go wrong and there's
the problem that this type of technology isn't exactly know for its
longevity in terms of obsolescence. It gets worse with some home
appliances that require an app to get full functionality. How long will
that app be supported by the manufacturer (not very long is the answer)
before the app just no longer works.

A real bad example of 'technology fetish gone wrong' - by a pretty
expensive Tag Heuer smart watch that will look horribly dated in only a
few years and probably not long after it won't even connect to your
latest phone.

*Even then I got somewhat peeded off that when I had to replace the car
radio/CD I couldn't get one just with basic functionality and big chunky
buttons.
