You could not play offline single player at all - online only so you got
the single player experience with LAG and disconnects.

Then there was the "we deserve more money" crap design which meant once
you got out of normal difficulty you HAD TO hit the REAL MONEY AUCTION
HOUSE for gear since the drops were so fucking shit or you did not
progress at all.

You hit a fucking wall and could not progress without paying Blizzard -
fuck that, fuck them, uninstalled.

D3 made it 3 months, D2 was installed for over 10 fucking YEARS.

A game tuned to drive you to spend more cash, where the previous 2 (and
expansions) did not.

Not even thinking about considering rolling the dice on maybe looking at
D4 - Blizzard Burned that bridge out of existence with D3.

Blizzard will never get a dime from me ever again.

Sorry, but aren't they MicroActiZard now anyway. Blizzard, bought by
Activision (Infogrames who changed their name after alienating the
entire gaming community) and now owned by Microsoft, literally the worst
game developer ever.

Yeah, my wallet is secure.

Not. Yet.

They're still ActiBlizz. The merger is still blocked in the UK
(although that's weakening) and hearings are scheduled in the US too.
Things are less shakey elsewhere, sadly, with many other countries
having given the nod to the deal already.

Oh god, yeah, I forgot that part. That was annoying as hell, and the
required downtime when they did updates, which inevitably were
a big chunk of my then more limited time.

I never ran into that, I finished the game at least and had fun with friends.
The NG+ (or whatever they called them) were pretty slow going, and
grindfests though. So pay real money or grind for who knows how long.

I did run into having to trade items to progress, but that's why I liked
the non-money auction house.

I think I played it a bit on the DLC, which was after they'd got rid of the
auction houses all together. I found that far more annoying as you
still needed to trade to make reasonable progress, but you had to
go do it through forums.
> Blizzard will never get a dime from me ever again.

Even though my experience was better, I still pretty much have this
attitude toward them. If my friends get sucked in I might join them
though just as there'd then be something I could do with them.

I think they've been into Path of Exile which didn't grab me though.

There were another couple things as well linked to the online only part
- forced updating so Blizzard could fuck with the gameplay any time and
no ability to mod.

D2 on the other hand I could play at a patch level where Blizzards
"Balancing" hadn't destroyed all kinds of builds and use QoL mods like
increased inventory space.

I got through normal difficulty no problem, but about halfway through
the next difficulty level I hit a wall - in the desert I think enemies I
could not do enough damage to unless I hit the RMAH and spent cash.

I gave up the game no more than 3 months after release and never looked
back. Even with the auction house removed, it's still forces me to be
online for single player and randomly disconnected me cause they didn't
have enough servers to handle the load.

Over all liked PoE, except for the bit where you could upgrade a skill
into uselessness cause the downsides or energy cost got absurd.
