you must be joking.

ios *includes* an ebook reader (and a very good one at that), with
shitloads more available for download.

> 43. NMEA Data

true, but the people who actually need nmea won't be using a gps in a
phone.

> 44. Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP)

obsolete. bluetooth le has long replaced it and other obsolete
profiles. not only is it faster and more reliable, but it's a *lot*
easier to write apps.

wastes battery.

instead, the iphone display comes on when the phone is picked up or the
user's face comes into view.

> 45. Multiple Users

not needed on a phone.

> 46. Ability to close all open apps at once

there is no need to close open apps, either individually or all of
them. the system manages that and does a *much* better job.

the only exception is if an app crashed, which would be just the one
app that crashed, not all of them.

> 47. Ability to set default apps

exists on ios.

> 49. Customization

exists on ios.

now go add the 50+ things ios can do that android can't to your 'list'.

*Why does nospam always _fabricate_ iOS functionality that doesn't exist?*
Sure you can now change email & web default apps but what about the rest?

On Android, I can set any number of apps to a default right in the settings.
By way of defaults, iOS devices are braindead - you can't do any of that.

On Android...
I can set the default mock GPS location app in the settings.
I can set the default call redirecting app in the settings.
I can set the default homescreen app in the settings.
I can set the default phone dialer in the settings.
I can set the default SMS/MMS messaging app in the settings.
I can set the default action for long pressing the home button.
I can set the default action for the hardware power button.
etc.

You can't do _any_ of that in iOS.
Why does nospam always brazenly fabricate imaginary iOS functionality?

*I suspect he _hates_ that iOS can't do all these things Android does.*

>> 49. Customization
>
> exists on ios.

*Why does nospam brazenly claim iOS functionality that simply isn't there?*

I can customize my homescreen with any grid I like (or no grid at all),
change any app name or icons I like, make shortcuts to any settings deep
within apps or Android that I like, I can add the best ports to apps like
the GCAm and Google Recorder offline translators. I can save the settings
and port to any Android phone I like. I can choose any app drawer I like. I
can change the background, foreground, fonts, themes, shadows, top bar,
bottom bar, etc.

I can remove the dock (something which is impossible on iOS) and if I like I
can put as many folders or icons in the dock that I want. I can change the
name of _anything_ if I like (even system apps) and its icon at any time.

I can change the search bar style and the gestures, scroll accents, folder
animations, transition animations, icon layout, window styles, scroll speed,
app animation, popup menus, hardware button configuration, drop targets,
undo bars. There are tons of notification settings, etc.
> now go add the 50+ things ios can do that android can't to your 'list'.

You just got your head handed to you by claiming XCode runs on the iPad.
https://groups.google.com/g/comp.mobile.android/c/JtIOHlyXMR4/m/OKXIYVYOBAAJ

Here we go again where you brazenly fabricate nonexisting iOS functionality.

Name one useful app functionality you feel is on iOS and not already on
Android.

*Name just one*
--
The Apologists brazenly lie about imaginary iOS functionality existing.

You brazenly claimed so but I don't care as lies are expected from you.

I'm 100% factual; I'm _not_ afraid of facts so all I ask of any of you is...

Since you apologists play silly games, it can't require a second computer,
nor the Internet for it to do its main job - nor jailbreaking - nor writing
your own code - it has to be something that an app from the repository that
I can download and test which provides that functionality you incessantly
claim isn't already on Android. (You've never come up with this
functionality, as all you do is claim brand names or specific games, none of
which are what we're talking about when we say iOS is brain dead compared to
Android in terms of app functionality).

I doubt you'll find even one and there are very good sensible reasons why.
Apple restricts what Apps can do. And Apple restricts what the HW can do.
Far more so than Google does.

android has quite a bit of security.

it's just not very effective.

for example, those in-screen fingerprint sensors he babbles about can
be spoofed very easily with adhesive tape or reflective foil (depending
on the type of sensor).

but nothing comes anywhere close to htc, which stored unencrypted
images of scanned fingerprints in a world readable directory. how that
even ended up in a shipping product is mind-boggling.

t-data-in-unencrypted-plain-text>
...According to FireEye, multiple Android manufacturers protect
your fingerprint so poorly, it can be read by plugging the phone
into a computer and knowing which folder to access.
....
One example is the HTC One Max ‹ the fingerprint is saved as
/data/dbgraw.bmp with 0666 world permission (world readable).
Any unprivileged processes or apps can steal the user¹s fingerprints
by reading this file. Other vendors store fingerprints in TrustZone
or Secure Enclave, but there are still known vulnerabilities for
attackers to leverageŠ To make the situation even worse, each time
the [HTC] fingerprint sensor is used for auth operation, the auth
framework will refresh that fingerprint bitmap to reflect the latest
wiped finger. So the attacker can sit in the background and collect
the fingerprint image of every swipe of the victim.

> > 15. Content transfer to a PC
>
> What fuckwittery are you making up? You can transfer content to your PC.

note that in his list of ios 'features', he cites ios as having easy
backups, which is true, it does.

unfortunately, easy backups is a direct contradiction of the above
claim, since a backup by definition is transferring the contents to a
mac/pc or the cloud (the user can choose either or both).

put simply, ios does this, and does so *easier* than android, by his
own admission.

>
> > 26. ANT+
>
> Nope. UWB and BT are much better and ANT will be forgot.

matter and thread are the standards going forward.

ant is dead. android supporting ant means they chose the wrong
standard.

it's a bit like blu-ray and hd-dvd. some people got it wrong.

> > 27. Contact groups

no shit. this has been there since *before* there were even iphones.

you missed some of the better ones:

> 42. eBook Readers
> 45. Multiple Users
> 46. Ability to close all open apps at once

ios *ships* with an ebook reader (which is quite good), with many third
party apps available for those who want something else, nobody wants
nor needs multiple users on a phone, and quitting all apps at once (or
even one by one) is not only dumb, but it's also completely pointless
and counterproductive.

My job here is simply to point out that the apologists are full of shit.

The adults on this newsgroup will note that Lewis always proves my point
*The apologists just make everything up because they _hate_ what iOS is.*

Lewis always drops us down to his kindergarten cesspool level in every post.
And then he claims there are "far more apps" on iOS than on Android?

I'm sure the apologists _believe_ the crazy fabrications they spew.
But, for the adults, let's bring facts up to the _adult_ level shall we?

Facts.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=which+has+more+apps+ios+or+android

First hit:
https://www.mobileapps.com/blog/android-vs-ios-market-share
"*Google's Play Store has more apps (2.56 million)*
*than Apple's App Store (1.85 million)*."

Google Play alone has about 38% more apps than does Apple's App Store.
Put another way, the number of iOS apps is only 72% that of Google Play.

And that's just _one_ repository for the Android apps (of many)!

The problem with Apple newsgroups is apologists _hate_ what iOS is.

Correct, I changed that to "Longer OS Updates."

I modified the document to indicate which iOS only features are
predicted to be available in the future on Android, and which
Android-only features are predicted to be available in the future on iOS.

LOL, no, with Samsung Pay you can pay at merchants that don't accept NFC
payments. I probably do this a couple of times a week. U.S. Post office
near me, Kaiser pharmacy, HD Supply, my local pool supply store, a ski
area at Lake Tahoe earlier this year, etc.

Massive numbers of Android-only apps.

Ah, you are correct, I didn't realize that. Fixed that.

Perhaps, but security experts agree that Android flagships are harder to
hack than iPhones. Android users do have the ability to make their
phones less secure by installing apps from “Unknown Sources” and by
rooting, but that's not something you can do without expressly ignoring
the security risks. I added this statement.

Not meaningless at all. Cameras and displays are a big issue for many.
"Better hardware" is a bit general, but because Apple doesn't make their
own modems yet, they'll be at a disadvantage for a couple of more years,
by being dependent on Qualcomm.

I already explained and referenced the workaround.

Perhaps, but the apps provide more control, even if it's technically
true that those controls would be better if included in the OS.

I change it to "Better Biometric Authentication." Apple is expected to
come out with 3D fingerprint sensors in a future iPhone.

Didn't realize that, but yes, you're correct (at least they used that
for computers in the past). Removed it.

it's not a prediction.

it's an officially announced feature.

samsung pay has very little engagement and is not an android feature.
it's a samsung feature.

those who buy other android phones (htc, lg, pixel, etc.) cannot use it.

massive number of ios-only apps, and ios usually is first for new apps,
with android to follow, since it's *much* easier to write ios apps.

google assistant has been available on ios just 3 months after its
introduction on android, back in 2017, a completely meaningless time
difference.

oh yea, those mythical 'security experts'.

the reality is that it's very easy to bypass android security, such as
using adhesive tape or reflective foil to spoof in-screen fingerprint
sensor.

another statement that is false and misleading.

only a couple of android phones use an integrated modem, which doesn't
actually matter anyway.

your explanation is incorrect.

itunes is not required. it is definitely the easiest way, but it is not
the only way.

you're waffling.

maybe, but what apple has now is *much* more secure than the '3d
fingerprint sensors' in android phones, which can be spoofed with
adhesive tape or reflective foil.

the google pixel 4 had face unlock as good as apple's face id, but it's
been discontinued.

This a US-only problem. The banking system is such a mess that these
daft workarounds exist. Here anywhere that takes contactless takes Apple
Pay (as well as Google/Samsung pay I'd guess). The number of places that
take contactless

There are also far, far more unpatched android phones whereas, given the
longer support window, iPhones are almost all fully patched.

Your statement is still incorrect. Many iphone users do not want
parental control apps.

Still doesn't make sense. Android doesn't have "better biometric
authentication".

also true.

yesterday, apple released a security update for iphones going back
*eight* years. another security update was released a few months ago.

most android phones stop getting updates after about 2-3 years. samsung
announced 4 years of updates (and only on select models), but that's
still just half of apple's support.

quite a few, with massive omissions on the ios side.

Well not just the U.S., India as well. But you're right, this really
should not be an advantage of Samsung Pay, but it is for now, and I
already point out that it is only an issue in the U.S. and a few other
countries. Also, Samsung removed MST from the S21 though it kept it in
some new mid-range phones.

I thought that MST was a great marketing tool because at merchants that
didn't take Apple Pay or Google Pay the cashier, upon seeing someone
trying to pay with their phone, would say "We only take Samsung Pay."

That is true.

No, but the new flagship Android phones use Qualcomm chipsets with the
latest, integrated, 5G modems.

And many would like to have them. What's your point?

3D fingerprint sensors are much more secure than either FaceID or the
current generation of TouchID.

The apologists only know what Tim Cook's Apple web site fed them to believe.

*Google Play updates most of Android fully independent of carriers & OEMs.*
*_Forever_*

Even Qualcomm drivers are now being independently updated over Google Play.

Forever, in this sense, means there is no EOL specified, especially as the

It's always trivially easy to prove Apple apologists are shockingly wrong.
*The list of app functionalities _on Android but not on iOS_ is huge.*

People like Chris actually _believe_ what they write - and yet - it's
utterly trivial to prove them wrong (as it was with Lewis & nospam).

Given Chris is an Apple apologists, he will _never_ understand that there is
functionality provided by those Android apps that are _impossible_ to obtain
on the Apple App Store.

We covered them in detail, so Chris, like all apologists, is just stupid.

Since I only speak facts, where are, for example, the automatic call
recording apps on iOS (they don't exist).

Where are the launchers for iOS (they don't exist).

Where are the GPS spoofers for iOS (despite the apologists claims to the
contrary, they don't exist).

Where are the wifi graphing apps for iOS (they don't exist).

Where are the YouTube ad-free replacement apps for iOS (the apologists
claims to the contrary, they don't exist).

Where are the onphone firewalls and on-the-phone system wide firewalls and
the on-the-phone system-wide ad blockers for iOS (they don't exist).

*The list of app functionalities on Android but not on iOS is huge.*

> There are also far, far more unpatched android phones whereas, given the

Again, the apologists only know what Tim Cook's Apple web site fed them.

Android phones are updated _far_ longer than any iPhone ever made is.

Heck, even the giveaway _free_ Android phones ($285 MSRP) have 5G today.

Universally, pentesters report Android is far harder to hack into than iOS.

Besides, almost all Apple SOCs out there today are laughably flawed.

All apologists think exactly how Tim Cook's Apple web site tells them to.
The biggest threat is _not_ someone grabbing your phone out of your hands!

And even if it was, the iPhone has been shown to be horribly flawed.

Why is it that every time Apple fails to accomplish what Android has, you
apologists always excuse it away as never having been useful?

Is it because you _hate_ Apple can't even integrate a modem into the SOC?

You can rest assured if Apple ever figures out how to design a modem, they
will make a _big deal_ about it on Tim Cook's Apple web site & so will you.

Again, you only know what you found on Tim Cook's Apple web site nospam.
Your biggest threat is _not_ someone grabbing the phone out of your hands.

Apple wants people like you to think that is the biggest threat.
Because Apple has absolutely no defense to the real threat to phones.

What they fail to understand is iOS updates _differently_ than other OSs.

iOS is essentially monolithic. All or none. When it dies - you're dead.
