I did get the RSS and emails, but not the pdf, xls and doc files.
Further I found one PC that sees the drive, but when I try to run windows
chkdsk, I get a request to format. Next is to try to find a machine that lets
me try chkdsk from cmd.

take a sector-by-sector backup of the SD (probably best from linux, not windows)
before attempting to do anything as drastic as chkdsk ...

And not fucking Best Buy. I had a guy at work who asked me to look at
his computer before he junked it. He had taken it to Best Buy, Geek
Squad, and they told him it was toast and he would have to buy another
computer. It was only a year old, and a pretty good one. He had pics
and videos of his now dead father and his son he had not backed up and
they were priceless to him.
I found there was a faulty cable to the hard disk that had corrupted the
boot sector. I used a free tool already already mentioned in the thread
and recovered over 1000 pics and videos, along with some personal
documents. Basically everything he had. I then put a new cable on and
formatted the disc and reinstalled windows with all the pics back in
place. He couldn't believe it. Best Buy simply didn't care. I don't
do this for a living, but I figured it out. They should have.
Basically, if you don't know how to use the available tools, quit
screwing with it. Every time you mess with it, you are taking the
chance of writing over something you might want, or screwing up and
formatting it.

Yes. Yesterday I ran GParted (saw androiid meta 16MB and extended 58GB
partitions,hung but said no files when forcibly terminated), ddrescue
(couldn't figure out where to save .img file), and testdisk (saw all
directories but no files). This from a laptop I am trying to triple boot
(DOS/Win/Quantian). I then got a new SD card, which the phone called DISK
instead and asked me if I wanted to FORGET SD. I will load backups on the new
SD card, while still trying to recover a few (maybe ten) files from the old
one.

When I set up the laptop, should I try 4DDIG? Anything else?

Ok, I'm back to "normal" but would still like to rescue the original SD card
as a non urgent learning experience

Seems to me it would be better if you get another card and fill it up
with something and then experiment with it. It doesn't have to be broke
to use the tools. You can then go further and try to screw it up and do
a fix. New cards are relatively cheap. Losing real and wanted data you
might not like so much.

Yea, the freakout effect has won off now that I go tmost stuff back,
tho fast PDF and IPTV Channels somehow don't want to be reinstalled
and disappeared withthe memory. But I am at least now surviving.

THis project has moved from "MUST" to "SHOULD"
