From what I see, IrfanView support the most formats too. That is why I
started install it. ("My graphics artist

I can't remember if this one was mentioned, but if not:

I also use Irfanview, the favorite here, but for my needs, it's a little
overkill.

Good luck.

I've never thought of IrfanView as overkill - but I suppose I see what
you mean! However, it achieves all that it does (I'm sure there are bits
I haven't found out about yet!) in far fewer megabytes [and - therefore?
- faster] than most alternatives.

But you can just use it as a viewer without being aware of what else it
can do; I _think_ I did, initially. (So long ago I can't remember.)

I also have faststone; actually, I think both can do much the same (i.
e. arguably faststone is "overkill" too); I suspect it's a matter of
which UI you got used to first. FastStone is good too.

I did see your other post, thanks, but failed to absorb it.
Not sure how to remove the profile from the camera app, if it is
possible, but I suppose I could look for another camera app that
doesn't include it.

I tried some more experiments, using Android JPG images from
a sample page, and I'm not able to reproduce the problem.
The image sample set had a couple different ICC Profiles.

The other possibility, is the Android images are one of these
types. More likely to be available on newer Android devices.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format

My Windows 10 VM, had an HEIC package from Microsoft installed
from the Windows Store, and I didn't put that there.

The question would be, whether the viewer in Windows gets its
image type support from external DLLs, or all of the features
are contained in the executable.

There are only a few image type decoders around.

GSpot was good for movies.
MediaInfo was also a movie viewer.
FFMPEG, FFProbe could be used to probe an image.

Maybe the Properties in Irfanview, can help you deal
with a basic decoding of what these images are. So we
can find a solution for you.

When you look at the Information on the pictures stored in the JPG
format remember there are three types. In Irfanview terminology, one
is accessed from the Information Icon that is active when a picture is
viewed. The second is found as a button at the EXIF bottom of the
information window. and the other is a second IPCTinfo button in the
Information window.

When you click Information picture basic are presented, file date, sizes
colors, etc. When you click EXIFinfo you get some very specific
information about the camera used to create the picture, focal length of
he lens, resolution, and a couple dozen more. IPCTinfo is more personal
information such as Author, Copyright, Keywords, Credits, etc.

Most jpg pictures have something on he Information page, Some viewer do
not safe the EXIF info and the IPCT info.

It is possible Photo Viewer has problems when it finds the EXIF and IPCT
information.

MediaInfo is still alive and well and it displays media information for
both movies and images.
