Thanks. I figured that I’d have to use a Registry hack to stop that
behaviour. MS knows how to irritate.

I usually use Firefox, but tried this on Win10 Edge just now. It updated
and when I restarted it, it opened on MY homepage (definitely MOT
Microsoft). Same thing with the dev version.

I had the same thing happen. Yesterday Edge opened to Microsoft's
selection for my home page - notwithstanding any changes I made in
Settings. Today it is opening to my homepage.

This issue has quite a bit of variation from problems being present for
multiple items(Open tabs on Startup, Setting Home page, Search in Address
bar and text in a web page), one or more items, or none.
- Edge like Chrome opens tabs. The Home page is a different setting in
Edge. The Home page setting applies to the configurable 'Home' button.
Setting Edge to open a url that is also your home page is possible, but
its not instructing Edge to open your Home page, but open a tab for that page.

Many thanks for that. That worked.

As soon as I set a home page at
"Settings >> Appearance >> Customise toolbar >> Show home button >> Set home page below",
Edge would go to that home page on start-up,
and not to Microsoft's default.

_After_ doing that (but _not_ before), when I set a page at
"Settings >> On start-up >> Open a specific page",
Edge will _now_ go to the "On start-up" page on start-up
and not now to the 'home page' at "Settings >> Appearance >> ...".

Pale Moon, & I suspect other browsers, still have a user chosen home page.
It works well in Windows 10.

You're welcome.

Just to add - for clarity
Edge when run opens one or more Tabs
A tab can be the same as the configured Home page
The Home page setting when enabled is applicable to the Home Button
- i.e. one configures the Home page for the Home Button

Type the domain without https://

I just set google to my start page by adding the page:

google.com

If I enter https://www.google.com or http://www.google.com it screws up.

Thanks, Microsoft. The Internet is officially dumber.

Okay, now it's working again. Try it. Delete everything, leave out the
protocol.

Try google.com, or www.google.com (or whatever you're using).

about:blank seems to work too.

It's a cock-up, not a conspiracy. Always bet on team cock-up.

I never use Edge, but out of curiosity, I just tried it and entered all
these URLs. They all worked with a problem.

Did you mean 'with' or 'without' a problem?

There's a subset of users, atm, for some unknown reason(other programs,
tweaking, etc.) that the desired configuration doesn't save. Likewise
another subset of users with the problem that is correctable on reset and
reconfiguration. Finally, another group that have fully updated 21H1 and
20H2 that are not seeing the problem.
What's also unkown - is how many of all users actually opened Edge, got
the prompt with two choices - (a)to let Edge decide the settings vs.
(b)Not changing user existing settings....and blew right by the default
selection of (a).

Only one of three devices at this end have experienced the
problem/annoyance with only a reset and re-configure necessary. All
devices fully updated to the latest available May Cumulative update.
All three devices can be reset to Edge defaults then reconfigured to a
user chosen Home page, one or more tabs on Opening and using Google as the
default search engine in the Address bar and on searching by selecting
text in a web page.

Sorry, a typo. Yes, "without" of course.
