In 2009, using my DP 1.8 GHz Power Mac, I effortlessly prepared DVDs from iMovie. I can no longer do this. iMovie v 5.0.2 works perfectly but attempts to prepare a DVD cause iDVD 5.0.1 load and then crash. I have loaded a virgin Mac OS 5 system from an original Mac OS 5 Leopard disk and virgin iMovie and iDVD from an original iLife disk. I have run Disk Warrior 4.4 on the Mac OS 5 partition and after running Disk Warrior, disk check, file check and permissions check all pass. I'm open to any suggestions about what I should to restore the 2009 capability of my old Power Mac system. Thanks.

OS 5? Do you mean OS X? Just trying to identify the OS and machine you have.
DP 1.8? Is that a G5 Power Mac? Does the Mac crash or just iDVD? You might
want to try OS X 10.3 (Panther) because it was native to the G5 1.8 GHz
Power Mac.

If you can be a little more specific, I'll try to help :)

"Leopard", so obviously MacOS X 10.5.

Dual processor 1.8GHz, which is the G5 "cheesegrater" PowerMac.

Simple answer is that iDVD 5.0 does not work with MacOS X 10.5. Instead
you need to use the newer version of iDVD that comes with iLife '08 or
'09.
<https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1869695>

You can download the iLife disk images from the Internet Archive
<https://archive.org/search.php?query=ilife&and[]=mediatype%3A%22software%22>
or buy a second-hand copy from place like eBay.

Another option is to save the iMovie as a disk image, then use Disk
Utility or another third-party app to burn that to a disc.
