Maybe it was 'Royal Crown' cola soda.

We could ask, but I don't know
Who was the original poster.

It was cheaper, but a lot of kids
preferred it. Probadly loads of sugar
and caffeine.

The problem was that RC Cola didn't taste as good as
Pepsi, and sure not as good as Coke. My mother used
to drink Diet Rite, the diet version of RC.

Was it cheaper? I seem to recall that when I was young all pops were the
same price. We rarely had pop in our house. It was a luxury my parents
did not buy. That was not a problem. My friends father was a VP at
Canada and they had an unlimited supply of pop and were very generous
with it. The guy not only got all the free pop they wanted, it was
delivered to the house weekly.

It wouldn't surprise me about Crown Royal. Apparently a lot of liquors
now come in cans. Must make it a lot easier to drink & drive. Heh.

The sad thing is that Crown Royal is a premium quality rye. It's a
damned shame to add any kind of mixer to good liquor.

I wouldn't know since I don't drink Crown Royal. I remember my middle
brother buying it decades ago; all I remember is the crown-shaped glass
bottle and the purple felt carrying bag that came with it.

I remember RC Cola, but it contained no alcohol. I think it was the
first cola sold in cans, needed a church key to open... the cap was
like an old glass bottle cap lined with cork... this was long before
pull tab cans. I don't remember RC Cola having anything to do with
Royal Crown.

You meant Crown Royal. No, it didn't have anything to do with alcohol.
RC was a cola drink. Nancy Sinatra sang the ads for it. It was touted
as the "Mad Mad Mad Mad Cola" This was right around the time go-go
boots were becoming popular and Nancy Sinatra sang "These Boots are Made
for Walkin'" LOL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2fPkzJsMU8

That song came out in 1966. In 1967 all my little girlfriend
schoolmates were wearing white "go-go boots" with little tassels on the
zippers down the side. I was 7 years old. My mother couldn't find any
of those white go-go boots at the store so she bought me a pair of
alligator go-go boots. I certainly was a stand out. :)

If you appreciate it for what is is, yes. If they can mix and increase
sales, they will. Seems to be trendy to sell pre-mixed from what I've
seen in the liquor store. Just look at White Claw.

Recently read that both Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam are greatly
increasing capacity so people must be drinking more too. They are
spending over a billion to do it.

It's not nearly as good as a jug of crystal palace.

I bet you were a hot go-go chic 50 years ago.

Sadly, time has passed.

I was wondering the same thing, how the topic switched from canned
liquor to canned soda. I've bought RC cola in both cans and bottles in
the past. I very rarely drink soda, but RC is OK. It's probably still
cheaper than the alternative coke or pepsi.

RC was the little guy in the cola wars. They were quite the innovators though. They were the first to come out with the pull top lids and Diet Rite was the first diet cola in the market. My guess is that RC Cola is mostly enjoyed down South. An RC and a Moon Pie is kind of a thing down there.

The thread drifted because someone upthread suggested the OP might be
thinking about Royal Crown Cola in cans rather than Crown Royal whisky.
I'm not sure but they probably do sell Crown Royal in pop-top cans these
days.

Moon pies are not good. In my opinion, soda is also not good, but every
rare great once in a while, I'll have a can. I hardly call RC cola "off
brand". RC, Dr. Pepper, or Coke are OK, on rare occasion. Pepsi is my
least favorite; too sweet.

Anything but Coke and Pepsi is off brand. I only
drink diet, either Diet Canada Dry or Diet Coke. I
think the last time I had a soda was about a month
ago.

There are lots of different name brands of soda; Coke/Pepsi are a couple
of many. If I have to drink some kind of soda, I'd prefer fresh A&W
root beer made at the local store.

To each their own, but I think I'd try to stomach a medium cooked steak
before I'd try another sip of diet soda. Of course, that's saying
something, from me. I absolutely can't stand diet soda and the awful
after-taste... that's what I consider to be torture/prison food.

I like all of the diet drinks today! I don't get any after-taste, either.

The root beer is not "made at the local store."
Unlike Coke and Pepsi, it has artificial flavor.

Getting used to diet soda is an adjustment. Now I
can't drink sugar soda. You should try medium
cooked steak. Just eat it by dim candlelight. It's
the idea that bothers you, and if you can't see it...
