I try not to buy any produce at market because of the chem-ferts.
I'm not concerned about animal waste, all soil contains animal waste.
When properly composted the heat generated destroys organisms.

That article makes it seem like they were PURPOSELY collecting and
fertilizing the fields with human shit and piss. This would be
pretty flagrant and odd.

Usually this is due to sewage problems/leaks or migrants shitting
in the fields to keep from losing pay/time of having to go to the
shitter and back.

Human shit is NOT a very good fertilizer at all. But I can vouch
for the piss. Still, it takes a lot to make of piss to a
difference in a whole open *field* while urea nitrogen is dirt
cheap. I was peeing on one little enclosed potted plant, not a
whole field.

And "Kuntry Gardens"? Sheesh! Why not just go all the way and
name it "Cuntry Gardens" fercristsakes.

I bet a lot of people in Michigan are ralphing right about now and
are pretty pissed off.

That's the problem with some organic farms. They do not properly compost
the shit they spread on their crops so there is the increased risk of
various nasty bacteria and infectious diseases.

Which is why I don't buy organic vegetables. Despite what I thought was
a thorough washing of some lettuce, I got the trots.

Perhaps they were following the North Korea model

https://www.rfa.org/english/news/korea/manure-02012022130916.html

Competition for human feces has once again become cutthroat in North
Korea, with mass public brawls breaking out as citizens begin the annual
ritual of trying to fill unrealistic quotas to make fertilizer for the
farming season.

In impoverished North Korea, farmland is fertilized using human waste,
and the government tasks every household with yearly collection quotas.

None of the info has said what they were thinking, nor how the
inspectors discovered the problem. The owner of the farm is Amish.
Maybe they were bypassing their septic tank and leach field (if
they have one).

Yeah. I just figured they were poor spellers.

That's where my Schadenfreude kicks in. Most of the stores that sold
produce from Kuntry Gardens are kind of high-end.

Supermarket vegetables haven't been grown using chemical fertiliser?

Pretty good with salt, salt, salt, grated velveeta cheese, already sauteed mushrooms and onions.

Without chemical fertilizers, there's a good chance that you wouldn't exist. They have allowed humans to support most of the people alive on this planet.

Niiiiice.

Different news outlets report this differently but the postulation
is valid.

It's ironically counter-productive that they require citizens to
shit more to stave off a food shortage. But... <shrug>. They've
closed their borders so they can't get fertilizer from China as
they previously did.

It won't be long before they start physically and literally
"beating the shit" out of citizens.

They'd have more citizens to produce shit if so many of them
didn't commit suicide. But I bet the dead bodes are also used as
fertilizer.

That's some serious shit going on in that dicktatorship.

I've got a rather old aluminum one with Bakelite handles. Sheldon would
be afraid of it, since it's made of aluminum. I hardly use it, but I've
used it for melting chocolate. I'll try it with scrambled eggs sometime.

So this could have been an ADM or Conagra sting...

I take it from your title this *was* a certified USDA organic
farm? I see they do "organic eggs" and... Uh, oh. They also do
a big turkey business at Thanksgiving. They'll be feeding those
turkeys to the woodchipper this year.

No idea. I know the stores that carry their stuff are big on organic,
and patronized by a lot of old hippies.

I guess non-hippie American boomers fear organic. Bloody communists.

It's amazing that they keep managing to work out aid packages with the
governments of the free and the not as free world countries but they can
afford to run a nuclear bomb program and a missile program. One might
reasonably expect a government to try to feed its people before spending
the big bucks on expensive arms programs.

I'm going to try helping out and send a package or two. Not sure if UPS

You're wrong man. Popeye would be very interested, if it holds at
least 50 gallons in the top part of the pot.

He would simply counter the deadly aluminum by simultaneously
cooking a big batch of kashy varnish underneath the eggs.

I think his favorite aunt used to prepare this dish in brooklyn 60
years ago.

Here's a followup from the Detroit Free Press:

[T]he untreated human waste came from two buckets, 5 gallons each,
from outhouses on the farm. "The farmer disclosed to us that the
outhouse buckets were dumped directly onto the field where produce
was grown."

The eggs were not affect by the recall, but all the stores seem to be
dropping all of Kuntry Gardens' (I snicker every time I type it) stuff
like a lump of lava.
