I had a big cutting board that wouldn't fit in the sink or
dishwasher and would barely fit on the counter. It was also
slippery on the counter, making it a PITA X3 I'm not sure if it's
polypropylene or HDPE - I think it's the latter - the slightly
harder and whiter kind (Ed?).

I sanded a good side since it was a little old and unused for 10+
years to give a fresh look with some 300 grit and half-assed the
other side. I ripped about 1/3rd of it off using the band saw so
it now fits on the counter, in the sink, and in the dishwasher.
And I now a smaller one as well (which gets used the most).

To fix the slippery issue I has several ideas, but went with hot
glue gun sticks. I don't have a gun for the 'high temp' sticks,
so I just melt them over a stove burner flame (ABOVE the combusted
flame, not IN it). Dab it on all four corners of the CLEAN and
DRY underside of the boards and then one dab in the middle.

Wait until almost set (90-120 seconds or so) and then place the
board good side up on clean dry counter and press down a few
seconds to flatten out your new "feet" evenly. Turn it back over
and let it sit upside down for another 5 minutes to set the feet
completely.

Worked great and are super non-slip. And they've been though the
bottom rack of the dishwasher twice already and no feet have come
off.

Also note the sturdy napkin holder used to keep my cutting boards
upright against the back wall of the counter.

Genius, I know. Thank you Bruce!

A damp dishtowel would suffice.

As would a piece of that woven shelf liner. With a piece of shelf liner
cut and laid on the counter it leaves both sides of the cutting to be
used. Easily cut with a pair of scissors to any size and cheap as well.
Can be bought at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and most grocery stores.

But does he like Broadway musicals? Maybe you can
tell me, do gay men who detest stereotypically gay
stuff *fake it*? Do they learn enough to successfully
pass by occasionally saying things like, "Babs was
fabulous in *Funny Lady*."

But in the end, Squertz's solution is elegant and more practical!!

Seems like he went to a lot of trouble to keep that cutting board from
slipping. Cutting it down did eliminate the problem of it not fitting
in the sink/dishwasher, though.

I keep a smallish 18" X 12" heavy duty aluminum sheet pan on the
kitchen counter, holds our four slice Oster bread toaster, and there's
space behind the toaster and the wall's back splash for three cutting
boards. The sheet pan is perfect for collecting toast crumbs as there
are always some that miss the crumb tray at the bottom of the toaster.

It might be 'elegant' but not practical. Now he just has a useable
one-sided cutting board.

In my kitchen that would just another space hogging item on the counter.
Counterspace is at a premium here.

That's why God invented trash cans and dish cloths. Whisk those crumbs
in the trash and used a wrung out dish cloth to wipe down the counter and
get any wayward crumbs.
