Your ROACHES are dormant right now, but Spring
will come, and they will become active. They got
in before, and they'll get back in again. However,
this time you won't have the $$ to pay Rottler. You
will just have to live with the ROACHES. Better yet,
sell that giant house, and buy a tiny house, since
you live alone, and very likely always will. If you
don't sell it, the County will confiscate the pervert
palace, and you'll be outside with the ROACHES.

Are you sure it was not a bat or large moth?

I posted about a month ago about the entity
I chased around my house that eventually
disintegrated when it got too close to a
grounded metal electrical fixture. The
fixture was a spherical dome, i.e. what
you get by slicing away part of a sphere.

What realled piqued my attention was that
the path of the fragments of the disintegrating
blob were not simply straight towards the metal.

Instead, the paths taken were completely
radial, exactly orthogonal to the
electrostatic potential gradient one
would expect near a charged sphere.

The (apparent) field lines were distorted,
but in the region in between the fixture
and the 'Death Moth', I could see a bulge.

Look at the image at:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=magnetic+flux+lines&hps=1&atb=v334-1&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theelectricalportal.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2019%2F05%2Fmaxresdefault-1.jpg

Specifically, look at the region between
the + & - poles on the top diagram.

The round bulge is what I noticed when
the black (ectoplasm?) was sucked off by
the electrical ground.

Here's some flux lines on a pair of Gibson Boomerang guitar pickups. Its internal configuration was kind of a mystery because it's sealed in black epoxy but it's two small pickup coils in a vee configuration. The coils are wound in opposite direction to each other or the magnets in the coils are in reverse polarity. This is done to suppress background electrical noise.

Getting fresh air in your house is a good thing to do.
Places closed up during cold winter months are a breeding ground
for viruses. This is why winter is the traditional "flu season."

Only takes about 30 minutes to:
- turn off your heat
- open all windows on a breezy day to replace with fresh air
- near the end, turn on your furnace fan for just a minute
or so to flush out the ducts.

Then close your windows and turn the heat back on.
Yes, you lose all the heated air but your walls, furniture, etc
still retain their heat and house will warm up quickly so
this process uses very little extra gas or electricity.
My bills are very low in the winter and I do this often.

This was my doctor's advice about flu season, not my opinion.
Just passing it on for something to consider. It's worked well
for me.

You are an uneducated boob. Viruses only "breed" inside
a body, not in a house, and the reason that flu spreads in
the Winter is because folks are driven inside, where there
is contact between persons. Airing out *your* house,
where only *you* live, has zero effect on your chances of
catching a virus, and John also lives alone.

You'll get rid of some airborne particulates, and that's
good, but vacuuming with a vacuum cleaner that has
a HEPA filter, and changing the HVAC filter does way
more than a little airing out.

It does make it smell better, and it really doesn't use a
lot of energy, but in John's situation, every penny is
one more penny into the red.

Maybe you need a new doctor. Viruses only "breed"
inside a body, not in a house, and the reason that flu
spreads in the Winter is because folks are driven

Airing out *your* house, where only *you* live, has
zero effect on your chances of catching a virus,
and John also lives alone. You can't catch a virus
from yourself.

liike an old wives tale .. like airing out your sheets to get rid them
of body heat.

Gary brings up this airing out the house frequently. I'm all for airing
out the house on a nice mild day but I sure as heck wouldn't do it if it
was only 19 degrees outside. Besides, Gary lives in a two bedroom
apartment. How does that compare to suggesting John shut off the the
heat and open all the windows in a 2 story house with a "finished"
basement when it's well below freezing outside? It doesn't make a heck
of a lot of sense.

Only 19? That would be a relatively warm winter day here. Houses get
closed up and sealed up from November to April here. The main source of
fresh air is opening the door to go in and out or opening a kitchen
window when something in the oven is smoking.

Gary lives near Virginia Beach. When was it last 19F there?! It
certainly doesn't get that cold in my area. It is supposed to be
"highs" in the 30's towards the end of this week or over the weekend.
Fine with me! I'll get to wear one of my nice coats to work. :) But
no, I will not be turning off the heat and opening the windows for 30
minutes. That's just plain silly.

So, shut off the furnace and open all the windows for 30 minutes. LOL

19 degrees Fahrenheit.
Below freezing.
Not 19C, which isn't cold at all.

You have my sympathies. Years ago I went job hunting out in Winnipeg in
early December. I am glad I picked that time of year to look instead of
moving out in the warm weather and discovering too late how cold it is
out there. -40 Fis not just 40 degrees colder than our worst cold
snaps. It is a while new dimension of cold.

It was 19C in the living room this morning. I used to find that
comfortable. Having acclimatised to the subtropics, I now find it
chilly.

Yes, I was aware it was 19F. In the middle of our winter that would be
relatively warm. At 19 C we would definitely have the windows open.

I suppose that you just get used to your climate, to some extent. I
would prefer Gary or Jill's climate. I'd rather die than live with the
temperatures that Graham deals with.

19 Centigrade roughly equals 66 Fahrenheit... that is chilly, to me. No
way would I have my windows open on a day under 70-some out. It's about
60 inside of my house now, and I keep my shoes on and bundle up. I'm
eagerly awaiting 80+ summer temps... I suppose that I have a long wait.

If I had to live in Canada, I'd go on anti-depressants.
