A functional modern laptop with a large screen and keyboard can be
purchased even cheaper potentially, and would fit into a small room
better. I'd buy one, set it up, and send it to him just for the
entertainment of Sheldon posts again.

I've had dinner at my grandmother's independent living facility before
(they serve everyone supper in the dining room). I thought the food was
pretty good, but grandma regularly complains about it. My guess is that
a fair bit of her cooking is old fashioned and bland, and she doesn't
like restaurant-type food.

In the US, most cafeteria school lunch food is horrible, in my
experience. Your region might vary.

I use salted butter for everything. If in a baking recipe, I cut back
on the salt the recipe calls for. If making butter cream icing, the
salted butter is much welcome, as it cuts the cloy sweetness.

I grew up with dark Karo, and that's still what I buy, but the price of
it has gone wild. A guy from northern Minnesota gives me a small bottle
of home-made maple syrup every August. Perhaps I should try mixing them.

My guess is that the American school lunch is probably middling - of course, that includes countries that don't do school lunch.

Don't mix the maple with the dark corn syrup. You can
duplicate Karo dark by buying store brand light corn
syrup, and adding some home made brown sugar syrup
to it, or just make the whole business with white sugar,
water, brown sugar and salt.

It sounds like he's settled in nicely and here's proof for Gary that Kathy didn't just
dump and abandon him as we knew she wouldn't.

I think that dark Karo also has molasses in it to contribute to the
taste. I have a jar of it here. I only bought it to make gingersnap
cookies, so I'll probably have that jar for a while.

The Canadians might consider sacrilege, but I don't like how thin maple
syrup is (compared to corn syrup).

That's why I mix it with corn syrup. I also like the milder,
sweeter taste.

I sometimes will put some butter in a pan, add some maple flavored syrup, and cook it down some to make hot buttered syrup. OTOH, I prefer guava, coconut syrup, or some fruit syrup, if I got a choice.

That's how I used to feel about it. I was raised on Old Thyme syrup
which I believe had some real maple syrup in it. My wife always insisted
on real maple syrup and I found it to be too thin. I got used to it and
now I much prefer the real McCoy.

The American population as a whole would be healthier if corn didn't
exist.

I was raised on Aunt Jemima. The first time I tasted real maple
syrup, I realized what I had been missing. Thin isn't a problem.
It just soaks into the waffles.

That said, I like a crappy artificially flavored, maple-frosted donut
every few years. Nostalgia.

I lost my taste for those. The last time I had a maple frosted donut I
noticed a hornet on the last bit of it. I flicked the hornet away and
tossed that last piece into my mouth. I had not realized there was
another hornet on it and that the crunchy texture that I thought
resembled the topping on a creme brulee, except that every time I
touched it I got stung. That led to a trip to the hospital. Now I have
to carry an epi pen, and I never drink from a can or a bottle outside
anymore.

If you like a sweeter taste, why not add some
of your sucralose potassium asesulfame?

You're very delicate, officer dave.

Almost like those poor bubble kids.
