I make blueberry pancakes every couple of weeks. Next time, I want
these blueberries. Should be more enjoyable.

Sadly true. I've really pretty much stoped
buying blueberries for about a year.

When kids, we would crawl around in the
wild blueberries browsing like animals
when the bunches were fist-sized.

(Admittedly kid-sized fists, but still.)

But were they Orgasmic like the one at Walmart?

Last June when visiting my friends in NJ we went to Hammonton, the self
proclaimed blueberry capitol of the world. Nifty blueberry drinks at a
distillery there.

At home, I bought some berries and the sticker said they were from NJ.
Next batch I bought was from MI. Last batch about a week ago was from
Peru. Never thought of Peru as a supplier.

Where did you think they came from in the middle of winter?

In July, I buy and freeze about 35lbs of BC blueberries. I have a
handful on my breakfast cereal every morning.

Not winter yet. Lots of produce in winter comes from southern states,
Mexico, etc.

In the middle of winter I see Canadian - grown tomatoes, cukes, greenhouse - grown; Canada has a vigorous greenhouse produce industry...

www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2016/06/16/473526920/how-canada-became-a-greenhouse-superpower

"How Canada Became A Greenhouse Superpower

Our cold-weather neighbor sends us more tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers than we send the other way. Despite all the vegetable fields of California and Florida...

I drove across the Ambassador Bridge from Detroit into Canada and headed southeast toward the city of Leamington...

It was a chilly, slate-gray day in spring. But within an hour I started seeing the vegetable fields. They were indoors. Plants were flourishing inside vast see-through structures made of glass or plastic. Some of the greenhouses covered 50 acres; that's an area bigger than 30 football fields...

This is the main reason why Canada sends us so many tomatoes. It's the biggest concentration of greenhouses in North America...

"The Leamington area probably has about 1,500 acres of greenhouse production," says Paul Mastronardi, CEO of Mastronardi Produce Sunset Grown, a big vegetable grower here..."

Wild blueberries always were pricey. The farmed variety are a heck of a
lot cheaper, and definitely cheaper than raspberries around here. My
wife loves wold blue berries, even the frozen Canadian wild ones and has
some almost every day but she won't eat the farmed berries. They
reinforce my theory about berries each having s certain amount of
taste, so the small ones are full of flavour, but the large ones have
the same total amount of flavour spread throughout the larger fruit so
they taste bland in comparison.

Unless it is a freak weather pattern cold and snow is winter. I passed
through Graham's area a few years ago when flying to the east coast and
back. It was a cool November Day when I left Hamilton but after less
than an hour on the plane everything below was snow covered. It had
been in Edmonton and it was below freezing outside. On the way back we
stopped in Calgary, which is a couple hundred miles south of Edmonton,
and it was just as cold and snowy there. Victoria had fall weather and
when I got back to Hamilton it was fall, but Edmonton and Calgary were
definitely winter.

On a related note, back in the mid 70s I went out to Winnipeg to look
for work. I got off the plane on Dec.6, which is still officially fall,
but it was -40. F or C, it is the same.

Meterological winter in the Northern Hemisphere starts December 1.
Before then, it's just autumn.

Back before climate change, we were pretty much guaranteed several
inches of snow on the ground by U.S. Thanksgiving. This year, I don't
think I'll be able to use God's Own Refrigerator to chill the
turkey carcass after the meal.

When was before climate change? The glaciers from the last ice age ended
right about where my house is. It has been warming and the ice cap has
been moving back for about 15,000 years. Some places have had higher
temperatures. I haven't really noticed that here. Last winter may not
have been quite as cold as previous winters but it certainly was a long
one. About 8 years ago my friend and I went for a ride around the
Niagara Peninsula on Dec. 4 and a month and a half later we rode about
30 miles to Niagara on the Lake for lunch. Last year we put out bikes
away mid October.

I suspect others are just referencing offical date which is 1Dec.
Reality is People look at as when snow starts and pretty much stays
around. You effectively have longer winters than I do.

For me, 1DEC may 'technically' be winter but effectively ours usually
'feels like winter' from the last week of Dec to mid-March. It we get
any snow at all, it's likely in Jan/Feb.

Tell me about it. I am one of the few Canadians who had not been south
for a winter vacation until just a few years ago. When we left here it
was below freezing. It was below freezing across PA and snowing in West
Virginia. By the time we stopped in Wytheville PA is was time to ditch
the winter coats.

Your winter may be like out late fall. It can get pretty raw. Never the
less, we hope for a white Christmas because there is no guarantee.
January and February tend to be cold and miserable and we can get snow
into April.
