Looks like Firefox does not do what its told when the user tries to delete part
of the browser history. As a result, tracking of users is even more easy.

Why am I actually surprised. I'd think I'd learn by now.

I really hate the way browser developers (and os developers) want to integrate advertising directly into the product, instead of maybe providing some awesome home page that people can choose to use and get all the awesome features they provide.

I, of course, would choose not to use it, but it would be available for the tremendous amount of people that would basically opt-in.

I think it is worse than that. To enable all there advertising and make it effective, they have to know about you first, meaning your data are in a way part of the product.
I have read a study that Google is nowadays more likely to know that a woman is pregnant than her man or she herself. Just by analyzing the search requests of the respective woman gives a significant hit rate. This is fucking scary and can be misused in a zillion ways.
But if there are no good tools left to browse the www, I will probably just ditch it like I did with TV because of the commercials.  :-))

Yes, the way advertising is effective (they believe) is to know as much as possible about you, and they try very hard to do so.

They can say all they want about how it's secure and they won't tell anybody, but a subpoena is different. A post I made previously in another thread fits here, "I'm not doing anything wrong, so I don't care", is an attitude that really bothers me. That's the attitude that allows all this crap to take place.

People are conditioned to associate an attitude toward privacy with guilt of some kind. "Why are you so secretive? What have you done?"

Intelligent people who I know, and I'm sure you know some also, have this attitude, and look down on those who balk at intrusion into personal lives.

I could go on all day on this subject, it truly irritates me.

yeah, carelessness is a big part of the problem. technical
ignorance is another. most people don't realize that data is
not deleted anymore, ever. whatever you do in the clearnet,
it is logged forever.
