I've only watched the first half, then had other things to do and missed all the excitement.

In that first half there were a lot of "that looked like a foul to me" moments, for both sides, and when I saw the 1-1 replay later on I thought it was in that some category.

Consistently lenient, as someone on reddit put it, thus not calling it was just status quo, but this resulted in a goal and with VAR it should probably have been called back.

Actually in Paris this week, could have tried to find Ixion. Games at 9 pm are not as easy to watch as during lunch time in California.

So the abolishment of an archaic and arbitrary rule, that would have given Juventus a random "lead" in the tie even though both teams had scored exactly the same number of goals, is to be rued because the game was unadventurous?

Presumably the match would have been equally cautious , with Juve in
particular taking no risks and hoping to score on the counter, and
Villareal only cranking up the intensity in the last quarter hour.

Interestingly, the two CL QF legs sandwich the City-LFC title-edging showdown in April. If one team gets a much easier draw than the other, it could have a profound effect on the EPL title race.

And of course if they draw each other then it could be the mother of all battles between the two clubs - they'll play each other thrice in a week - each game being as big as the other two.

Well there have already been a ton of matches played according to the new rules in the qualifiers,
and the percentage of ties that went to extra time has roughly doubled.
