I can't remember which team or player it was, but I read somewhere that an injured player has been replaced in 1 of the squads after the tournament started! I thought it was only up to kick-off of the team's 1st match that that was allowed.

I would say the look I got from watching on tv was a mix of Uruguay light blue and white or grey, I thought it looked dull, not glowing blue, but then again, like most men I am colour blind, the women watching probably thought it was a dazzling kit, I thought it just looked out of place as a kit colour, especially for Spain, kinda boring and dull. I suppose some may say Spain's style of play is boring and dull, lots of possession, but not much end product.

Plenty of end product from the Dutchies and Sweedie pies as they took care of biz, both winning easily. SO la Grande dames will play the Dutchies and we find out today if it will be Belgium Icelandia or Italia vs the Swedes. Regardless of which team it is, Sweden is in the Semi finals.

It seems a lot of people, mostly Spanish or at least Basque are calling for a foul on the English goal. I didnt think so, the ref wasnt calling that all game anyway, so at least she was consistent. the Senoritas were the dirtier of the two, always niggly fouling the old English Grandmas and she let a lot of that go, so your conspiracy needs more juice for that one.

We took the match to the Germans (something they definitely didn't expect) and hit the woodwork three times. There's not much more to ask for.
The only thing that annoys me is that we finally also conceded one of those stupid goals that are still too endemic in women's football. You could
see it coming from miles away... Zinsberger really should have known better.

The important thing now will be to qualify for the World Cup for the first time. With a similar performance like at the Euro, and the proper lessons
learned, we needn't be afraid of any opponent in the play-offs.

About those stupid goals...the lob from way out is definitely a deliberate tactic that more and more players are trying. It makes no sense with 1.90m male goalies, but certainly has a place in the game with 1.70m female goalies.

Actually, it's more like the end of an era. Sweden are the only survivor from back when
women's football still had a distinct advantage in the North, and it feels like it's only a matter
of time until they fall by the wayside like Norway did.

The future will be exactly like men's football, with the Big 5 dominating, just as in club football
where that's already long the case.

Come on, on the men's side you can still get relative minnows like Croatia and Italy make a WC/Euro final, and maybe even win it if PKs go the right way

Well, no amount of Anti-Weauxfing will change the fact that Italy will always be Big 5 due to size of population.

But I realise I've been quite UEFA-centric (well, it is the Euro we were talking about). Canada are of course the other holdout
from among those who had a head start in the development of women's football.

Have you looked at the latest numbers on Italy's total fertility rate? (Yes, it will take a while for the population to shrink relative to other European countries. But also, why has Italy been so poor in integrating its immigrant population in the NT, both men and women?)

In terms of population, Canada (38m) would be the 6th member of the Big 5. Not sure I understand why they've still been trotting out Christine Sinclair (unless she's just out to get to 200 international goals...)

I don't think she is negative influence quite yet. She allegedly makes
the players around her better. And she is still a few months younger
than Atiba, who I presume will retire after the world cup (whether he
gets to play in it or not - he might well miss out due to injury or form).

But the fact Germany ended with still 11 players is a mystery
(indeed not, but for once I am consensual ;)).
