That's as far as they know now, hence the alarm about its wild mutation rate. It's another one spread by respiratory secretions which means really bad prospects for keeping it contained. In the UK they are vaccinating people with the smallpox vaccine which has been shown to be 85% effective against monkeypox.

Infecting a bunch of hosts with various degrees of resistance was how Pasteur made more-/ and less- virulent strains. It's the host population that's causing the virulence. Infected people are putting up varied forms of resistance and the virus mutation to defeat that resistance is being naturally selected to dominate. Then the racial biology in the west is different from Africa.

Viruses do not mutate "to defeat resistance". Viruses simply
mutate... randomly. We would all be dead if that claim were true
many tens of millennia ago. We do not see a virus killed in a petri
dish, having straglers mutating to beat the daeth. Nope.

That is why failing to eradicate and stemming the transmission
vectors is so dangerous, and we have seen the result. Had Trump
acted correctly, the nation (and the rest of the globe as well) would

If the appearance is mutating to defeat resistance then it's proper to put it that way.

Inducing mutation has been proposed as an anti-viral therapeutic strategy, the idea being the viable viruses could not infect cells to reproduce because they were all taken up by non-viable mutants.

Nothing new there. The ideas for various emergency response plans have been in place decades. Here's an insider story of OWS at the executive level who in effect blames the Obama administration for the usual inaction that could have saved a lot of money and last minute scrambling that was taking place here. OWS was not new at all and they got a lot of help from industry and HHS people who were giving the real direction to the effort. OWS dropped the ball on production capacity and distribution because the military figureheads didn't know what they were doing, as usual.

immune system has long been known. Cancers also evolve under
immune-system pressure. This is a common cause of relapses.
