LOL! It's *submersible* — 'i', not 'a' — but putting "toy" in front of it was a
stroke of genius. You win Usenet today. Good stuff!

Are you sure?

The Titanic hit an iceberg on April 14. We're now at the summer solstice. I
don't think it's nearly as cold at the surface. According to this PBS story
(https://tinyurl.com/yckkt72j), the temperature at the depth of the Titanic is
about 33F. That's pretty chilly, but if five people packed into a tight space
are wearing warm enough clothing, they'd be fine. I've been out for walks
wearing a good parka in far colder temperatures, and I was perfectly comfortable.

The fact is the submersible never got to the depth of the Titanic. It imploded
*long* before reaching the shipwreck. The reason communication was lost between
the submersible and the surface ship relatively early into the dive on Sunday
*was* the implosion. Those poor saps never even got close to the Titanic.

It wasn't the cold that killed them or caused the disaster. It was the shitty,
uncertified design of the submersible.

..
Incidentally the ROV that located the Titan
was manufactured by a company only 20 miles
from me on Cape Cod. In the town of Wellfleet.
..
Here's the Deadly Math concerning the accident.
Ambient air pressure at the surface is 15 psi.
Seawater pressure increases 0.444 psi/ft and
since 2 miles is 10,560 feet the pressure at
the Titanic is (.444)(10560)=4689 psi

That compression ratio is 4689/15=313
..
The volume of the Titan chamber was about
(pi)(5^2) (10)= 785 ft.³
..
Which means that once it imploded the air volume
was near instantly reduced to: –
785/313=2.5 ft.³
..
The air bubble that rose from the Titan was
initially: –
(4/3)(pi)(r^3)=2.5 hence r=0.842 ft=10 inches
..
The air bubble rising from the Titan
was only the size of a party balloon.
..

Crap. Navy not only had detected the ultra loud sound of the crash,
which by the way involves an implosion immediately followed by explosion
- kind of like a supernova - heheh :) - they also had shared their
interpretation with those searching for the sub as well as with their
friends, even with the movie director of Titanic! Then for days all
these people who knew what happened, I bet, were sitting on their asses
laughing at what the news covered and how they were trying to make the
most news out of it. "Crew has only 90 hours of oxygen!" :-) "Now they
only have 10 hours left!" ...

After crash sound had reached the closest listening point, and the news
of a sub missing at that same location reached the Navy, everything that
followed in the news after that was purely for "Whodats."

I don't want to start my Saturday, so early in the morning, with
anything that involves the concept of "Whodat" and "Whodats". Be it just
to kill time while coffee is brewing. I don't want to do that even if
you pay me! :-(

A "Whodat" should die and reduce the dead weight on peoples' shoulders.
It's the only positive aspect that there is about a "Whodat" that the
"Whodat" can do. Stockton "the Whodat" is dead, that was good. Worth
spending a few minutes on. The other four, minus the 19 year old, each
"Whodats" of their own, trusting another "Whodat", I'm happy about them
also. Dead Weights.

I'm sure the Baba Paki referred to Stockton as "Sahib!" Good fucking
riddance indeed. But the 19 year old couldn't know better. And it is the
law of nature that no matter how innocent, if you're descending from a
fool, you're a goner as well as the fool.

We are weak, writing is difficult, but for my own sake I do not regret this journey, which has shown that Englishmen can endure hardships, help one another, and meet death with as great a fortitude as ever in the past. We took risks, we knew we took them; things have come out against us, and therefore we have no cause for complaint, but bow to the will of Providence, determined still to do our best to the last. But if we have been willing to give our lives to this enterprise, which is for the honour of our country, I appeal to our countrymen to see that those who depend on us are properly cared for.

Had we lived, I should have had a tale to tell of the hardihood, endurance, and courage of my companions which would have stirred the heart of every Englishman. These rough notes and our dead bodies must tell the tale, but surely, surely, a great rich country like ours will see that those who are dependent on us are properly provided for.

Since the 21st we have had a continuous gale from W.S.W. and S.W. We had fuel to make two cups of tea apiece and bare food for two days on the 20th. Every day we have been ready to start for our depot 11 miles away, but outside the door of the tent it remains a scene of whirling drift. I do not think we can hope for any better things now. We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker, of course, and the end cannot be far.

It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more.

R. SCOTT.

For God’s sake look after our people.

Videos of the recovered Titan fragments
show 2 major points: –
..
1 – The Plexiglas viewing window is missing
..
2 – the undercarriage is completely undamaged
..
Point 2 indicates that the undercarriage was
RELEASED prior to the implosion !
This indicates that the Titan had reversed
direction and was on the way up again –
presumably from some major emergency !
..
Point 1 – the Plexiglas window missing may
have occurred either before or after the
implosion – no way to tell at this point?
..
The fact that the UNDERCARRIAGE was not
bent, distorted or damaged in any way indicates
that it was RELEASED ON PURPOSE which
indicates a "return to the surface" emergency
maneuver – if so, the occupants may have had
several minutes of pre-implosion drama
(crackling, popping noises etc.) before the
final implosion ! ... Gad !!
..

Official 1: (Stunned) Look at these videos! The viewing window is
missing!

Official 2: (Examining the footage) You're right! The window is gone.
But the undercarriage is undamaged.

Official 3: (Thoughtfully) That means the undercarriage was released
before the implosion.

Official 4: (Nervously) Why would they release it? What could have been
the emergency?

Official 1: (Hypothesizing) Perhaps they encountered a problem and were
trying to resurface quickly.

Official 2: (Anxious) That might explain the banging noises we heard
earlier. They were trying to get help!

Official 3: (Speculating) But if the undercarriage was released
intentionally, they must have been in serious trouble.

Official 4: (Uneasy) What kind of trouble could cause them to make such
a drastic move?

Official 1: (Looking worried) It's hard to say. Maybe they were running
out of oxygen or had a critical system failure.

Official 2: (Gulping) Whatever happened, it must have been terrifying
for them.

Official 3: (Trying to remain calm) It's possible they were struggling
to fix the issue before it was too late.

Official 4: (Panicking) But it looks like they didn't have enough time.
The implosion must have been devastating!

Official 1: (In shock) Imagine the final moments—crackling, popping
noises... The fear they must have felt.

Official 2: (Distressed) It's heartbreaking to think about. They were so
close to making it back.

Official 3: (Swallowing hard) We have to hope that they didn't suffer
for long.

Official 4: (Grieving) Rest in peace, my friends. We can't change what
happened, but we must stay strong.

The new details from the recovered Titan fragments have left the
Officials with more questions than answers. They try to piece together
the events that
led to the sub's implosion, pondering the emergency that forced the
undercarriage release. The dialogue reflects their shock and sorrow as
they contemplate
the dramatic turn of events that may have unfolded inside the sub before
its final moments.

I heard somebody was offered a ticket at half the price! Bring your
kids!!

NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center had a Space Act Agreement with OceanGate and consulted on materials and manufacturing processes for the submersible.
For the safety of our team members during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as limited resources and availability, NASA Marshall engineers only participated remotely
in technical interchange meetings, providing consultation for materials and manufacturing processes based on industry standards.

blame it on the chink virus!

To put it simply...NASA FUCKED UP AGAIN!

Ask any teacher if they will in one built by NASA...

Every time NASA sends something up in the sky...people close their eyes and ears and scream..."IT'S GOING TO FUCKING EXPLODE!!!!"

Why would anybody get into anything built by NASA? YOU THINK THEY GIVE A FUCK IF YOU DIE?????

Who's idea was it to use a gamepad joystick to Navigate dat sub???? WHO????

NASA...it couldn't be anybody else.

Only NASA thinks of things like that!

Here is the video of the guy with the toy controller in his hand inside
the sub...

..
I have a question – why didn't Oceangate simply cast the
10 foot diameter cylinder of the Titan out of SOLID
TITANIUM – say 6 inches thick?
..
A 10 foot diameter 10 foot long TITANIUM cylinder with a
6" – wall thickness would still be near neutrally buoyant,
should withstand 5000 psi and would only cost about
$15,000 for the Titanium.
..
Titanium is stronger than carbon fiber, and the carbon fiber
cylinder was only about 6 inches thick. And Titanium unlike
carbon fiber is not prone to cracking !
..
Of course getting some foundry to cast the Titanium
cylinder might be a problem ? But I'll bet someone
would try it !
..
Anyway, Stockton Rush and at least 6 of his still living
Associates, do have the distinction of being the only
human beings who have ever seen the wreck of the
TITANIC in person !

Reminds me of that line in the movie Apollo 13...

Gene Kranz : Let's look at this thing from a... um, from a standpoint
of status. What do we got on the spacecraft that's good?

Gene Kranz : I don't care about what anything was DESIGNED to do, I
care about what it CAN do.

Sy Liebergot : Flight... I recommend we shut down reactant valves to
the fuel cells.

Gene Kranz : What the hell good is that gonna do?

Sy Liebergot : If that's where the leak is, we can isolate it. We can
save what's left in the tanks and we can run on the good cell.

Gene Kranz : You close 'em, you can't open 'em again! You can't land
on the moon with one healthy fuel cell!

Sy Liebergot : Gene, the Odyssey is *dying*. From my chair here, this
is the last option.

Gene Kranz : EECOM, is this an instrumentation problem, or are we
looking at real power loss here?

Sy Liebergot : It's, it's reading a quadruple failure - that can't
happen! It's, it's got to be instrumentation.

Gene Kranz : God damn, see, these guys are talking about bangs and
shimmies up there. It doesn't sound like instrumentation to me.
