I have several iPod Touch - used exclusively for audio equipment
technical testing.

Also use iTunes (yes - surely the world's most ghastly-designed
unintuitive app - I know) to extract CDs to ALAC lossless, which I can
then load onto my (Android) phone and play in PowerAmp, as well as use
on the iPods.

I also own a lot of albums (LP and CD) released by Apple, but that's
different ;- )

nearly all of that 70% are cheap android phones that lack key features
and don't last very long. comparing those with midrange and high end
android & iphones is not valid. further, mindlessly following the herd

nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. what actually happens is that
people overwhelmingly buy what fits their needs.

Exactly. Many people get a much lower end. And then of the ones who go with
the higher end devices, MOST pick Apple.

Does not mean people are wrong to like Samsung or whatever... to each their
own. But Apple does very well.

For sure there are people who can't afford the most expensive devices.
Then there are people who can afford them, but don't want to spend so
much money.

The Samsung Fold looks cool for instance, but it costs more than I'm
willing to spend.

folding phones are not particularly durable. the original review units
(from a few years ago) all failed within a day, causing samsung to
delay the product launch. more recent models are a little better, but
not all that much.

Much the same as the likes of Bose in the audio world, which established
their firm presence in their case by largely by exaggerated advertising
of inferior products. And now make products that essentially need to be
destroyed in order to repair. Of course they are not alone in this, but
it is largely 'trendy' companies that push those products.

The thing that keeps me invested in Apple infrastructure is that
pretty much "everything just works". By that I mean that all the
constituent parts are designed to work together and in the great
majority of cases they do, generally with the minimum of hassle.

Add to that: ongoing tech. support; superior build quality and
engineering; an excellent operating system with easy to apply,
frequent security updates and yearly major version revisions,
all free.

Who in the Windows or Linux world can honestly say as much?

I've used both 'Doze and Linux in the past and I still keep both
in VMs on my Mac. I know what they're like and how frustrating
they can be.

You have to pay a premium price for all that; I tell you with hand
on heart, it's worth every penny.

there is no premium. that's a long standing easily debunked myth.

apple products are competitively priced, and in many cases, cheaper
than alternatives.

Try native rather than VM then. Things had 'just worked' pretty much
since WinXP for me, even.
