Ridiculous assertion. If needed I could be 100% Windows/Linux Android
based by 15:00 this afternoon. Extra 48 hours for my business.

All the custom s/w we've written for the business will compile on
Windows or Linux (with some path editing needed - but that can be done
with scripts or a special program that would take a couple hours to
implement).

But I would lose a lot in terms of seamlessness between my devices and
that would create more "churn" to move information around and perform
some tasks.

It would also make transactions with some suppliers "bumpier" as those
suppliers are also Mac based, and so we mutually use Messages, shared
notes, shared reminders, etc. for many things to keep one-another
informed and up to date. All nice and seamless.

This home office iMac is a 2012 model, BTW. Other than high res video
rendering, is doing quite well.

New Mac this fall? TBD. Waiting for Goldilocks.

I've never needed Apple tech support other than with my first iMac
(2007) when the hard drive began to fail prematurely. Warranty case.

Further, people tend to skip official tech support as there is so much

I still run WinXP - though with no reason to have a machine for it, it's
in a VM. Can boot that quickly if needed (which is not all that often).
Likewise Linux and other OS's.

Absolutely. But in reality this iMac (2012), while seemingly a
"premium" when I bought it has given back way beyond expectations over
time. Likewise most of my Apple devices other than an iPad mini that I
underspec'd on storage at 16 GB. It's not of much use now other than as
a browser and a couple other functions.

If I had a car I'd probbaley feel the same way about that too I know friends have who have brought certain makes of care
and have either stuck with that make if they are happy or gone to other makes if they haven't been happy.

Can you not accept that people actually choose to stick with Apple because
their products suit them better than the alternatives? It's a fact that
Apple's growth in the last 10-20 years is not through lock-in, but by
people moving from Windows.

Most people use Windows at work and yet often choose Apple for home. Again
an active choice.

The only reason I have a windows machine at home is for gaming. Whenever I
try and use for anything else it's a highly frustrating experience. And BTW
I've used windows since 3.1.

That's purely on you. Obviously people who have actively chosen Apple over
other options think it's better and so will say so. Any perceived smugness
is on your end.

Given most Apple users have experience of at least one other system they

quality. Clever maybe in terms of acoustics but not high fidelity.

There are certainly the odd Apple devotees who are blind to reality out
there - but then you have such for cars, clothes, cameras, motorcycles,
pop-stars, etc. and so on.

Where Apple does indeed have a superiority niche is where the user has
several products such as a Mac, iPhone and Watch. Throw in an iPad
and/or AppleTV for good measure. The seamless experience is quite nice
and just not doable on disparate products (say a Windows + Android +
Galaxy Watch + ...).

Once you're "integrated" that way, the prospect of a lesser experience
is not all that interesting.

But you have to ask yourself why that happens. As you don't appear to understand such things you are more likely to be fooled
into buying an inferior product because of a brand name.

Some call smart phones cell phones, some even refer to them as camera.

Some think that words spelt as color rather than colour , humor rather than humour, defense rather than defence
and many other words but still call the language they use as English.

A game where you pick up a ball and attempt to run with it to the end of the field and drop it they call football,
whereas in the rest of the world footbll is a game almost entirely played using yuor feet to kick the ball.

Some call the back of the car storage as the trunk whereas UK refer to it as the boot.

Im not sure why google pixel or samsung users would called their phones iPhone, perhaps it's just wishful thinking
or maybe they just aren't inteligent enough to tell the difference.

You must be living in a different planet. Here in Germany the terms are
"Handy" and "Tablet".
Although several years ago the (US based) sister of my wife came
visiting us. She didn't know that there were tablets made by companies
other than Apple.

none that are any good. android tablets are a market failure. they're
basically big phones which run phone apps.

contrast that with ipads, which are as fast as faster than most laptops
and run ipad native apps, along with features unavailable on laptops.
