You can get a nice burial plot at a veteran's cemetery, and a funeral with an MP3 playing taps. Been there done that with my father-in-law, who was in Patton's Third Army, Battle of the Bulge and all that.

Jay, you crawled under a rock to keep from serving your country. For that matter so did Frank and Russy and FuzzyWuzzy.

Another uncle, who is still fortunately still alive, who joined the Navy in the 1970s so he would not get drafted into the army and end up in Vietnam. He has told me he qualifies officially as a Vietnam era veteran and gets special benefits. Whatever those are. My Dad served in the army in the mid 1950s. Officially he was stationed OUTSIDE of the United States of America because he was stationed to the Alaskan TERRITORY. Before Alaska became a state. I am very glad my Dad did not serve in the Korean conflict. We make heroes out of war heroes. But I don't think fighting and killing is a good thing overall. It would be better to not have wars.
I served in the war zone. I actually volunteered so that my maintenance partner wouldn't be volunteered. Let's here little Johnny tell us about how he serve there too, as crew chief on a bomber that did not exist.

Veteran of Foreign Wars? How can that be Tommy, as you never served in
a "war zone" or in a foreign country. (Guam being "the westernmost
point and territory of the United States (reckoned from the geographic
center of the U.S.)"

If you are buying pure private insurance, you're a total idiot -- plus you couldn't afford it. Income earners such as myself are paying both your Medicare expense and your Veterans benefits. You served during the Viet Nam war era (assuming you served in '64-72), so yes you are a war-era veteran, which entitles you to certain enhanced benefits, regardless of the fact that you did not fight in Viet Nam -- which is O.K., it was a stupid war.

I missed the draft and served my country as an ambulance driver/EMT (the first class of EMTs in SCV, by the way -- before paramedics were big). I was probably shot at more than you -- or shot around in East San Jose. Unless you were on the ground fighting, I saw far more blood and guts than you ever did. What did you do -- change batteries and fix radios? Now you're a war hero? My brother-in-law was a medic in Vietnam, and he never talks about it -- unlike you. Same with his father who marched across Europe with Patton shooting Germans. There is an inverse correlation between talking and doing.

And sorry, this may be un-American, but just being in the service is not heroic. It's a job for which you were paid. I know lots of guys my age who just missed Vietnam, went into the service and spent four years doing a job for the federal government in uniform that could have been done in civies -- minus all the saluting. I don't think that shuffling Army paper is any more heroic than shuffling civilian paper. Being in battle day after day is a whole other thing.

"But I don't think fighting and killing is a good thing overall. It
would be better to not have wars."

Well yes, of course. However:

The first armed conflict in history recorded by eyewitnesses was the
Battle of Megiddo in 1479 BCE
and
I did a search for "Longest period without a war" and I can't find a
definitive answer. However I did come across a list of wars and their
duration. Such as
The Reconquista Started 711 ended 1492 duration781 years
Roman–Persian Wars 54 BC 628 681
Crusades 1096 1699 602 years, 5
months, 1 week and 4 days

It appears that Humans are a rather combative group and "war" seems to
be a favored pastime.

I would have assumed that most “US veterans of domestic wars” would be
kinda dead by now, so wouldn’t they all be “Veterans of foreign wars”?

Logistics and support are necessarily a larger portion of

More invention such as you were employed by a US construction company after you got out of the Air Force as a crew chief which everyone knew meant flunky?

Guam was the war zone because it was declared so. Putting life ordinance on air craft could kill you just as dead as if it fell on you from above. Coming back from a mission with a damaged aircraft crashing on the runway killed you just as dead as being shot out of the air. This is not to mention that I flew three or four missions over north Vietnam. Something that they wouldn't want a crew chief doing because NO ONE wanted a flunky useless nobody along on any kind of mission. Like as not they didn't even want you on a B50 flight.

You can get a nice burial plot at a veteran's cemetery, and a funeral with an MP3 playing taps. Been there done that with my father-in-law, who was in Patton's Third Army, Battle of the Bulge and all that.

We really know that you were shot at in San Jose when you were an EMT. Pass on some more bullshit. Tell me - what leads you to the conclusion that I was bragging about my time in the service rather than talking about it? What leads you to have missed me saying that the Army were the people on the ground? What in your mind makes you believe that even a peaceful mission in the states on a bomber was safe? Because you're flown on an airliner designed 80 years after that bomber I was on? You are one piece of work and with all of that metal in your leg you certainly won't be riding bicycles much longer. And if you got one of those vaccines with the Parasites in them you won't be with us much longer anyway.

Johnny tells us that he was a crew chief on B50's. When he was in that bomber as a bomber didn't exist. Initially it was replaced with the B47 before the B50 even came into service and then the B52. And the RB-50 (photo reconnaissance) had LONG been replaced by the jet fighters and eventually U-2 and the KB-50 the so-called tanker was too slow for anything but refueling jet fighters that had the ability to slow almost to a stall. So that there was even B50's of any sort in the inventory was only because of contracts since the KB50 was replaced before it ever flew by the KC135.

No version of the B50 was ever used in any theater of war. What a "crew chief" was, was the man who the crew gave the write-ups of any problems on the air craft. All he did was call the proper people to repair anything. He MIGHT drive the tow truck to take the aircraft over to the refueling pit or the parking location on the airfield. These guys would gain rank because there were so few of them and any promotions were easy to get. Unlike us where in 4 years we have 2 promotions among 15 guys. Both of the promotions went to the favorites of the shop head and NOT the senior enlisted men as they were supposed to go. Happily one of those guy never re-enlisted and the other retired after 20 which was shortly after his promotion.

Absolutely. The question is: why does Johnny try so hard to make it look like I wasn't serving or a VFW? Wanna see my card or my ribbon for it?

Yes, you are correct, but that isn't the point. To draw "combat pay"
you need to be present in the war zone". Example, during the Vietnam
escapade there was a detachment of US Air Force personnel staying in
the Hyatt Hotel in Singapore providing logistic support... No war
zone, no combat pay and very difficult to claim that you were in a
"foreign war" while living in a peaceable country in a luxury hotel

Coming back from a mission with a damaged aircraft crashing on the runway killed you just as dead as being shot out of the air. This is not to mention that I flew three or four missions over north Vietnam. Something that they wouldn't want a crew chief doing because NO ONE wanted a flunky useless nobody along on any kind of mission. Like as not they didn't even want you on a B50 flight.

Guam was declared a war zone? Funny story. I was stationed at
Barksdale AFB and some of our people and airplanes went to Guam.
Strange isn't it that none of them drew combat pay.

And as for you flying missions over Vietnam? Only in your imagination.

As Jeff wrote, You specified, in your resume, that from 1965 until
1966, when apparently you left the Air Force, you were stationed in
the U.S. Is your resume a lie?

If you are buying pure private insurance, you're a total idiot -- plus you couldn't afford it. Income earners such as myself are paying both your Medicare expense and your Veterans benefits. You served during the Viet Nam war era (assuming you served in '64-72), so yes you are a war-era veteran, which entitles you to certain enhanced benefits, regardless of the fact that you did not fight in Viet Nam -- which is O.K., it was a stupid war. You can get a nice burial plot at a veteran's cemetery, and a funeral with an MP3 playing taps. Been there done that with my father-in-law, who was in Patton's Third Army, Battle of the Bulge and all that.

>>
>
>
Well Tommy boy exhibits his ignorance, yet again, for all the world to
see.
"B50's. When he was in that bomber as a bomber didn't exist"

Nope. The B-50 was introduced to the Air Forces inventory of aircraft
in 1948 and retired in 1965. I enlisted in the Air force in 1952 and
retired in 1972.

"the RB-50 (photo reconnaissance) had LONG been replaced by the jet
fighters and eventually U-2 and"

Firstly, the RB-50 wasn't simply a "photo reconnaissance" aircraft it
existed in several guises. A photo mapping with special camera mounts
for the mapping camera which because of the control and power
requirements worked only in aircraft modified for it's use. Photo
Reconnaissance with 100 inch focal length camera. Special mounting in
the aft Bomb Bay with a special "window" built into the side of the
fuselage - note here, at the time only three of these camera's
existed, and they were the most powerful airborne cameras in existence
at the time and were classified "Top Secret". Then we have the
Technical Photo modification used at Enewetak during the Atomic Tests
to film the actual explosion. Very secret and mounted in a locked
compartment looking out through a special "glass" window and we were
told the highest speed cameras in the world.

Then, of course there were the RB-50 Electronic Reconnaence aircraft
with which I'm not that familiar although there were at least two
versions. One of which sampled radar patterns and a second with a crew
of linguists on board listening in to conversations. Again very, very
secret.

"No version of the B50 was ever used in any theater of war"

Well, the 6091st Reconnaence Squadron was stationed at Yokota Air
Base, Japan, 1 December 1953 – 15 January 1968
And flew the
RB-50B Superfortress (Photo/Weather Recon), 1954–1961
RB-50G Superfortress (ELINT/Radar Recon), 1954–1961
And lost two aircraft, one to Russian fire off Northern Japan and one
for unknown, or at least unknown the working folk, causes in the S.
China Sea.

Being shot down for being in enemy airspace is not being shot down in war. And again I have to wonder how you put in 20 years and retired without a pension without being dishonorably discharged. Is that what happened?

Ah Tommy, you really do need to take reading lessons as you quite
obviously don't understand what you read.

Firstly, nobody argued that getting shot down in enemy airspace is
war, although the guys that got shot down might have a different
opinion on the matter.

And secondly, nobody said that I retired without a pension.

Tell us Tommy, are you really so stupid as to not be able to
comprehend what you read? Can you blame it on a poor boy like you
never having a proper education? Or is it just another example of your
mental problems?

All he did was call the proper people to repair anything. He MIGHT drive the tow truck to take the aircraft over to the refueling pit or the parking location on the airfield. These guys would gain rank because there were so few of them and any promotions were easy to get. Unlike us where in 4 years we have 2 promotions among 15 guys. Both of the promotions went to the favorites of the shop head and NOT the senior enlisted men as they were supposed to go. Happily one of those guy never re-enlisted and the other retired after 20 which was shortly after his promotion.

I am asking you again - why did you say that you've never drawn any military retirement if indeed you had an honorable discharge?
