He hasn't posted to any of these groups in close to a year. I keep thinking
(and hoping) that maybe COVID-19 or lung cancer took him, but check of his
Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GunnerAsch) reveals he's still uselessly
breathing and eating.

He was a chronic in these groups. It seems hard to believe he simply pulled the
plug on Usenet. A useless eater like that who has been addicted to Usenet for
25+ years usually can't simply walk away.

I think a couple of Wieber's shit-4-braincell pals might have corked off: Tom
Gardner (who ran Ohio Brush into the ground), and Michel Terrell.

Every Group should have a brain dead Hater like you. Perhaps Nambla and
the KKK have openings for you? Hells-Bells you could even join some

Michel Terrell.

Only in your sickest dreams. I am using a crappy Satellite internet service, so rarely look at newsgroups these days.

Finding decent and reasonably priced home Internet without cable isn't easy.

After corporate reshuffling I landed on Ting Mobile, using my old FreedomPop
R850 4G LTE cellular hotspot. I'm paying $26 for 2GB per month, with more
available at $10 per GB.

I had Ting, but no signal in my house. I am paying $50 a month for 10GB, but it has bad lag, and at 55GHz, it has horrible rain fade. I'm stuck with it for 13 more months. :(

I had Ting, but no signal in my house. I am paying $50 a month for 10GB, but
it has bad lag, and at 55GHz, it has horrible rain fade. I'm stuck with it
for 13 more months. :(

I'd never seen rain as intense as you have in Florida. I couldn't see the
front of the car hood through it.

A neighbor saw lightning hit the phone pole that serves my house. The only
damage was to the old carbon spark arrestors in the phone connection, the
cheap electronic house phone still worked.

I worry about lightning hitting my 50' high TV mast. It's grounded and the
cables all have quick disconnects to unplug -if- I know the storm is coming.
Once as I was walking away after unplugged them as a storm approached I
heard a loud spark snap from my nearby ungrounded wood stove or its metal
chimney, which are now also grounded.

How well do in-line coax lightning arresters work?

After having a modem damaged after a lightening storm some years ago I
copied an industrial phone protector we had at work and made a few for
mates. It comprised at the input 3 gas discharge devices wired between
the 2 phone wires and earth and one between the wires themselves, then 2
wire wound resistors one for each phone line, then 3 transorbs wired as
per the gas discharge devices, not had any issues since. I have some of
the components somewhere so could find the device details. The damaged
US Robotics 56k modem came back to life after replacing a fried surface
mount transistor with a common NPN switching one I had although in a
leaded package.

I bought a bag of "75V" gas discharge protectors from Amazon, then measured
their actual breakdown voltage. All were either over 80V or under 70V, i.e.
rejects, though they are good enough for my 24V solar electric system.

A "30A" marine surface-mount circuit breaker from them trips at 18A,
repeatedly. It's good enough for the intended use and I like the way it
operates. It's a bad imitation of a good design.

Seventy or so years ago, our neighbour's wall hung, wooden cased,
crank up phone was dammaged by lightning; in fact it caused dammage
four feet above the floor on the opposite wall of the twelve foot wide
kitchen. When the service crew came to restore his service, the
neighbour insisted that the replacement phone be installed in the
woodshed.

Cut the crap. Having internet access is as much a necessity for living in
modern America as having running water. If you guys are anything close to the
hotshots you pass yourselves off as being, you just get internet access and
don't complain.

Wieber has internet access of some kind. He's posting corny shit to Facebook as
recently as June 13. It isn't internet access he's lacking — it would seem to
be Usenet access. I'm thinking he might have made one too many threat to murder
someone and bury him with the dreaded "backhoe," and now he's been blackballed
by pretty much every Usenet provider.

Of course, money probably is an issue for him. Despite all the braying about
how well he does doing stuff for his "clients," I really don't think there's
that much money to be made sweeping up metal swarf and shavings. Wieber lives
in the poorer part of an already poor town in a mostly poor county. He has
posted several times here about his precarious financial condition. He has
property tax liens on the shabby manufactured "house" [sic] that sits on land he
doesn't own (and is in arrears on rent), the liens stretching back close to 30
years.

As I said, Wieber was a chronic here for some 25 years, regularly posting his
sick comic-book quality murder/torture fantasies about stringing "leftists" up
from lampposts with barbed wire and kicking off the "great cull." An addict
like Wieber doesn't simply walk away from a habit like that.

A ground block is the preferred method to protect from lightning damage in Cable TV systems. Connect it directly to a ground rod with solid 8AWG copper wire.
