The recent stiff winds dropped for a glorious dawn and
pleasant 70F. As nice a ride as I've enjoyed this year. Good
day to be alive!

I’m glad for you. Here, we’ve been having a rather underwhelming spring and
the daytime temperature hasn’t exceeded 70F. I’m hoping things turn around
in June.

Winding down south in Illinois I stay in the subdivision and did my 5 mile loops. It was nutty windy yesterday. To me a hot wind is the worst.

Like you we've been freezing to death in this global warming Tony Hrllrt hsd programmed a tool that can get the weather records from any city in the USA and present them on a chart. You can plainly see that the hottest time in the US was in the 1910's, 20's and 30's. The entire government has been lying to the citizens of this country an has been since the 60's NOAA and NASA have to be sharply limited. Why would NOAA tell us that we are living in the hottest time in history while everyone is freezing? Why would they explain that away by saying that global warming makes everyone cold? If you want to see for yourself go to realclimate.com and get the tool.

In any case, this makes it difficult to work up the courage to go out for a ride when you have to wear 3 layers and then when you start working up a climb you sweat 3 liters of water off and become exhausted? Sunday I did climb that was steep enough that I didn't have the wind blowing away all of my body heat and managed to get in some descent riding.

I want to do a ride today but again it is in the 40's this morning. dressing for this means that you're miserable later when it gets up to 70.

Yes, which makes today special.
It's been generally 'late winter' for months, including
girlfriend's huge tomato plot which froze dead last week.

I consulted my weather app and all I can see is clear skies and temperatures around 20 C in the West coast. That is not bad I would say. Cold in the morning? Wait until noon, you are retired.

78 degrees outside at the moment. But I just got back in from a ride and the wind was so cold that wearing a long sleeve jersey and riding at a 80+ cadence and riding fast I was cold. I stopped at a coffee shop and siting in the corner out of the wind was OK. The second I got out in the wind (even going down wind) was very uncomfortable. 25 mph with a 12.4 mph moving average counting all of the stop lights really tired me out. I was riding at 14 mph into the 15-20 mph wind. And 17-19 mph downwind. I didn't feel tired when I got home but as soon as I sat down for a couple of minutes my legs decided to give out. So the temperatures which are measured in a wind protected area usually in a box that has slats in it so that it is air temperature and not temperature in the Sun.

The worst thing about "wind" is it always seems to be blowing in the
opposite direction then I wanted to go (:-)

I know how the temperature is measured, but 78 F = 25 C and still complaining even with a chilly wind? Hmm, you are spoiled or a wimp ;-). I accept the weather as it comes. It makes you mentally stronger. Colleague went for a ride last Friday and returned home after 20 km because it was too windy. WTF. As far as I can remember it was perfect cycling weather.
Todays ride looked like this for 60% of the 82 km:

Clothes in the washer(short program = clean in 20 minutes) and a warm shower and all is good. As a bonus a new FTP, 1750 kcal burned so I can eat ice-cream this evening without feeling guilty ;-)

The wind blows in off of the ocean and directly through the gap for the Golden Gate. The water temperaures range from 50 degrees F to 47 degrees. If you can hide from the wind you can be pretty comfortable.

We've had several good days here, including last Thursday, when I made
a distance-increasing trip to Leesburg.

Today was casual, just to the farmer's markets, check the Legion Hall
for pork chops (I wasn't expecting any, but I never again want to say
"We could have had pork chops!), pit stop at Central Park (fountain
wasn't working, but I still had a bottle and a half)/

From there, the nearest place to cross 15 is Fort Wayne Street, which
is usable only to the beginning of the Friends of the Bike lane, but I
have to move over to Clarke to get around the school at the other end
of the FOB lane anyway, hey, why not hang another left onto Cook and
take the Beyer Farm Trail for the scenic view and an extra mile?

I meant to send a text at the bench, but there wasn't a shadow to be
had, so I remounted and soon noticed a faint tink-tink as if something
were touching my spokes at every rotation.

Dismounted, couldn't hear anything when spinning my wheel, couldn't
see anything but some dried grass caught in my cogs -- when have I
been in tall grass?

Finally found that it was a broken spoke tinking against the other
spokes. All I can think of is that on Thursday, I committed myself to
crossing 30 at high speed before noticing that construction work had
converted each pair of lanes into a low, wide curb. It's a wonder I
didn't get a pinch flat.

I've finally mastered "pinch the tires before leaving", but I've never
considered counting my spokes.

I bent the long end of the spoke around another spoke to stop it
tinking. I learned in the process that putting a split ring through
the keychain hole in the tiny pliers I carry in my wallet (in case I
wanted to add it to my key ring) was a TERRIBLE idea. Couldn't get it
off, but managed to jam it in a position that kept it from getting
between the handles.

The pliers were far too mini to bend the short end. They are also
sharp on the ends of the handles.

Time to put more A&D on the cut.

I went to the Trailhouse instead of going to Kroger. (Nothing on the
list is urgent.)

It was a bit hard to get there because there was a festival in The
Village (our tourist trap). I meant to walk around the festival
before going home, but it turned out that the insulation in my
insulated pannier is very heavy, so I went straight home.

All the boy said was "do you need to take any of this stuff with you?"
and "We'll call you when it's done."

I think maybe I've been there before.

By good luck, I line the pannier with a heavy-duty "reusable" bag
meant for delivering curb-service orders before insulating it; all I
had to do was to find the handles and pull it out, and it stayed
square and didn't squash my tomatoes.

Nice day, pleasant trip.

Wish I'd looked into the other pannier even though my little bag of
stuff and everything I bought was in the left one.

For example, I'd have taken out the bloody paper towel and the
band-aid wrappers.

Having bought several keychain pliers, I have found that the 4" channel
locks are about the miniest pliers that are actually good for anything.
Not that they would make a convenient key chain.

Hope it grows back as it should.

I washed dishes today, which helped a lot.
Perhaps I should wear a bandaid on it to
keep the sun off during tomorrow's ride to
Spring Creek Market & Greenhouses.

Sounds like the "mini gas pliers" that were tragically lost
when I foolishly bungeed my tool kit to the *outside* of a
pannier. (I'm now paranoid about tying everything to the
wires even when the package is inside the pannier.)

The folding pliers have been useful on several occasions,
most memorably when I got a bungee in my cogs halfway across the very
awkard intersection of Commerce Drive, Commerce Drive, and Commerce
Drive, back before a repaving job put an end to having to turn right
and left at the same instant.

Oops, bedtime. Wednesday, 8 June 2022

After bedtime. Thursday, 9 June 2022. It was a good ride. Thirty
miles, three hours out, three hours back. Knees started to hurt, I
started walking hills, and all was well when I got home. Calves a bit
sore when I did my nine-O'clock calf raises -- probably good that I
forgot to put on the weight pack.

Didn't have as much fun as planned. Sprawlmart isn't any fun when my
panniers are already as full as possible, and I unexpectedly found
supper at a baseball game taking place at my usual pit stop in the
playground, so I came home through Grace College instead.

I don't think I've looked for miniature adjustable wrenches at
Menard's yet. Must add mini-pliers to my shopping list.

This morning I decided to deal with the stuck ring before I forgot
about it again.

I thought I'd have to have Dave cut the split ring -- when he saw what
I was doing, he said that he still had the cutting wheel of his Dremel
out after doing another job.

First, I'd have to bend it out where he could get at it. I took the
needle-nose pliers out of the kitchen drawer, then got two smaller
ones out of his tool kit.

Studied the situation. I can get the point of the five-inch pair into
the gap where I'd tried to remove a smaller ring linked to it, and
succeded only in jamming the ring so it stopped flopping around. With
the pliers in the gap, I can open it enough to insert the two larger
pliers and bend the wire.

The smaller ring was in my way so I pushed it back, checking first to
see which "back" would take it off the ring.

Suddenly I had three loose objects: the smaller ring and the lobster
claw attached to it, the folding pliers, and the offending ring. And
I didn't even damage anything!

The whole problem all along had been that I couldn't take hold of the
ring.

I thought black squirrels, at least in the US, were just a melanistic
variant of the grey squirrel, instead of a different species. I used to
see a lot of them on my ride to work, in one particular neighborhood.
After seeing a number of them squashed on the road I haven't seen one in
a few years.

In other news, it's turtle mating season here. Always makes me sad to
see a roadkill turtle.

I would snicker at that except today I lost track of my position on the bike path and ran off into the weeds not once but twice. Since the covid-19 I have been particularly dizzy and have to really concentrate on where I'm aiming.

One of these days he's going to hurt himself.

He was wearing flat shoes and flat pedals. He lost all of his balance and fell down. I would laugh but I've done the same thing when I was first recovering from the concussion.

If you really had the virus, take your time, and add luteolin against
brain fog.
<https://doctorgrouf.substack.com/p/grouf-covid-protocol?s=r>
<https://doctorgrouf.substack.com/p/groufs-long-covid-protocol?s=r>

Add increasing amounts of kimchi, and more fresh garlic, to clean the
gut of Chicom virus, and to increase spacial distancing because for the
next few weeks.
<https://www.rintrah.nl/progressive-immune-depletion-from-repeated-infections/>

If it was not the virus, but other health reasons and California bans
you from sufficiently watering the lawn to create soft ground to safely
take walks and exercise on, think about a tadpole recumbent before
filling your garage, anew, with stuff that won't sell as fast as
titanium frames during an embargo on Russian supplies.
