He might have had congratulations playing in his earpiece/brain implant,
for missing the yellow pole, which prematurely switched to interview
instructions instead of playing the bike stop procedures. This could
well have ruined his concentration on first getting a firm stand to his
left side which he had surprisingly gotten untangled.

Well, someone once said something like "let he who is without sin cast
the first stone..." but maybe it should have been, "let he who has
never fallen off his bike be the first one to point his finger"

That's what he said but I didn't see them but the pictures were too rapidly shown. WHY would you have toe clips on a high bar bike?

I had three moderate glasses of wine last night, slept soundly though the night and woke this morning with a hangover. It slowly went away with the administration of coffee. Today was supposed to be pretty warm weather around the bay but if this is warm I wonder what next week's "hot" is going to be.. If I wasn't riding I would gave been cold, It isn't as if I'm sick since I don't have any fever.

I did around 28 miles or so but without the Garmin I just wrote down 25 I am really getting the idea that I should go back to the VDO speedo/altimeter which was absolutely foolproof. Yesterday evening, someone was running around starting grass fires that were approaching housing areas. The Slime Stream Media was treating it as if they were accidentally started in the countryside but the helicopter views show that they had to have started on the very edge of the city. At least these towns have learned their lessons and had mowed most of the spring grass down so that the fires were easy to douse..

The state and county have been moving poor people into the higher income areas such as Alameda and Montclair. The results of this is that the poor people have been making a damned mess everywhere. beer and whiskey bottles broken on all of the streets in areas that used to be over million dollar houses. Bent aluminum beer and soda cans rolling down the streets in the wind. In downtown Oakland the homeless people are everywhere as are the drug pushers, San Francisco is worse. The airlines are close to out of business. There used to be continuous takeoffs at OAK and SFO. Now the departure of ONE flight is an event. Arrivals are so rare that I don't even hear them go over my place when the wind shifts the approach route. The only thing that seems to be working is the Kaiser Hospital executive jets.

And speaking of million dollar houses: the local agent sent me an estimate on my place at $980,000. I have thought of selling off and moving up into the Sacramento area where I can get a new house for half of what I can get for this. I don't think that I can get Ann to move though with two of the four kids and three of the 5 grandkids here in the immediate area.

I watched the Twitter video and grabbed a few frames. What it looked
like to me is that he had come to a stop, with his left foot on the
ground. He had almost successfully pulled his right foot out of the
plastic toe clip. But at the last moment, he pushed his right foot
forward into the right toe clip and twisted his right foot clockwise.
The strap on the right toe clip was very loose, so extracting his foot
should have been easy. Instead, the strap or plastic toe clip became
caught by the shoe lacing, causing Biden to lose balance and fall.

Some clips from the Twitter video:

Today was supposed to be pretty warm weather around the bay but if this is warm I wonder what next week's "hot" is going to be. If I wasn't riding I would gave been cold, It isn't as if I'm sick since I don't have any fever.

Yesterday evening, someone was running around starting grass fires that were approaching housing areas. The Slime Stream Media was treating it as if they were accidentally started in the countryside but the helicopter views show that they had to have started on the very edge of the city. At least these towns have learned their lessons and had mowed most of the spring grass down so that the fires were easy to douse.

I have thought of selling off and moving up into the Sacramento area where I can get a new house for half of what I can get for this. I don't think that I can get Ann to move though with two of the four kids and three of the 5 grandkids here in the immediate area.

I did not know that but yes it's true:

Back in the "old days", in the days of "toe straps", I was just
finishing a very long, down hill run, something like 5 miles of, if
not exactly a "hill", at least enough of a "slope" to be in top gear -
25 - 30 mph, Wheee! Just like Eddy Merckx.

At the bottom there was a stop sign and turn onto another road to get
to where I lived. And, stopped right there was a convertible with a
load of nubile young ladies.

So I, being a proper bicycle rider I pull up and stopped between the
sweet young ladies and the edge of the road - see no getting out in
the middle of the road and impeding the motorcars.
And toe straps being tight fell, grandly, over on the shoulder of the
road. "Mortified" doesn't describe it (:-(

Thankfully the young ladies drove off and I was left alone to get the
toe straps loosened and ride the rest of the way home.

???? Like when he rolled to a stop and took his left foot out of the toeclips. And was trying to get his right foot out of the toeclips. But leaned a little too far right and fell over. Good thing you do not have a job which requires noticing details.

Because when you are pedaling without clipped in pedals and shoes, your feet can come off the pedals. If you do not have toeclips. Even loose, as Joe's toe straps were, they still hold your feet on top of the pedals and do not allow your feet to fly off the pedals.

That was 6 months ago Tommy boy. Real estate market has taken the hit it needed to take a year or two ago. Prices are decreasing. AND, mortgage rates are going up, and first time home buyer applications, or all mortgage applications, have taken a big hit recently. You might be lucky to get 6-7 hundred thousand today for your house. Sorry, your Momma's house.

I have thought of selling off and moving up into the Sacramento area where I can get a new house for half of what I can get for this. I don't think that I can get Ann to move though with two of the four kids and three of the 5 grandkids here in the immediate area.

I talked to the Garmin service people again and he told me that there were about a million updates that you had to make to the new unit. Apparently you have to uninstall the old unit from the Garmin Express and install the new one since it doesn't actually look at the unit itself. So I did that and it took about 20 minutes to download the updates. Then he said to take it out and let it have a clear shot at the satellites (it updates the maps via the GPS link?) So that is where it presently is at. Hopefully this all will allow it to work. The 830 Edge is a NEW device. They must sell a lot of them because the low serial number I have was built in March of 2021.

In any case I hope to reach Lou's position of being able to say that I'm not having any problems with it.

Not only me but also 7 of my riding buddies and my two brothers don't have problems with the basic functions of their Garmin (various models) and that is acquiring and holding satellites, displaying (GPS) speed and distance. I wonder if and what speed sensor you are using. Newer Garmins don't work with that old combined speed/cadence sensor. Don't you know someone that has a working Garmin that can help you in person? You questioning whether maps are updated via the GPS link (?) makes me think that you still don't understand the concept.

While I have one of the early 830's now, the tech told me that it was made in March of 2021. This one has a serial number of 8 alpha-numeric characters while the other was 16 characters long. But neither one has the slightest problems with the original speed/cadence detectors and worked fine until they didn't. And the cadence worked perfectly even when it wasn't logging any speed and distance. So obviously the radio link works fine.

Talking to yet another Garmin service guy I think he hit the nail on the head. Some types of errors in the speed/cadence sensors do not automatically switch the Garmin over to GPS tracking mode. So I have disabled the sensors and today I will do a ride with the GPS tracking only and see if I get any failures.

I am also buying the Type 2 sensors which are supposed to avoid this problem. The Garmin people have been exceptionally helpful but working from a distance with only Garmin Connect to give data simply is a problem for them. So I have been working a great deal on what is little more than wild-assed guessing.
