The goods don't seem to come from labour camps. You can't get the quality you need from that kind of labour. Chinese factories aren't fun places to work, but it beats doing farm labour, and even the Chinese have sarted to get into mechanised farming, so there's not as many farm labouring jobs around as there used to be.

I've been keeping a very close eye on China for the last 40+ years. I
saw this threat evolving a long, long time ago. One day we will have
to deal with China. It should have been dealt with many years ago, but
there was a sense among our illustrious leaders that reform would come
through trade and engagement. It hasn't and never will. China is a

Not as gullible, or as right-wing as Ed Lee. That's a positive, if not a particularly dramatic, approbation. About 95% of the population qualifies for it.

China does treat the bulk of it's population well enough to keep them happy - not all that happy, but they aren't starving and they do have some Western level consumer goods. Their scholars go overseas to get educated, and frequently go home again to share the fruits of their education with the society that they regard as theirs.
They aren't entirely happy with it, but even Americans and Australians have reservations about some aspects of their societies.

It is appalling that after regulations forbade this kind of research
on USA soil ("enhancement research") the US had it done in a
development/low-wage/low-regulations country (China)
without enforcing the regulations that would apply if it where
in the US.

So yes the US should abandon its one-party 1] state and try some real
democracy. The US is military superior to the rest of the world and
could forego pushing up military spending, including bio weapons.

One interesting result emerges. It is clear that the USA is not
ready to meet an attack with bio-weapons, while China probably is.
