Cursitor Doom is starting to look a lot like John Doe. Brain rot must be progressing rapidly, not that there was even much there to rot.

I can promise you I will not. I'm *already* in the process of
switching over entirely to classic cars with ZERO electronics. I don't
even like the level of computerisation there has been increasing in
cars generally over the last 30 years, let alone what may come in the

Not that anyone gives a fat flying fuck what you have problems with
already, but hopefully you will die soon, and finally your retarded
ass will be auto-filtered from the group and the world. Be sure to
refrain from ordering the electronic coffin and find a horse drawn
hearse and make them dig the grave by hand. No cell phones or quartz
watches on the crews.

You're a joke on intelligent men.

This is a promise given by an anonymous troll.

He hasn't actually got any kind of car, so the switch is confined to the kind of car he'd like us to think that he would drive, if his area of residence had roads.

Of course he doesn't. Cursitor Doom resents anything that is smarter than he is.

At some point the older cars that can't be brought into compliance with emissions will either be limited in the distance they can be driven or will be taxed heavily. Yeah, you will change because you won't have an affordable choice.

I'll be dead before then, anyway. My 'three score and ten' is well
behind me so I'm on borrowed time as it is!
I'm not wedded to the petrol engine. I would not object in principle
to switching to electric motors, if only the battery problem and one
or two other aspecs concerning supply infrastructure and generating
capacity could be addressed. EVs are the future - NOT the present!

Obviously a man living in a cave where he can't see the two million EVs on US roads and the thousands of charging facilities.

It's a hoot to see him talking about "generating capacity" as if he had some understanding of the issue. Basically a troll.

I think there are two people who post here who can not possibly be confused with anyone else. One is Phil Alison and the other is you.

I'm not going to argue with that.

Actually I now live in a very EV unfriendly location, Puerto Rico. Not many charging facilities here. I don't know if I'm going to buy an EV or not. Not that charging is the issue, but because I'd like to try something other than a Tesla and there aren't many EV options here other than buying a new car. I need to explore more and investigate. But the econobox seems to be the universal solution to parking and narrow roads. Not a great place for a model X.

So I might get a small ICE until the new breeds of EVs are out in a year or two. Electricity is expensive here too, $0.25/kWh, wow! So it's only half the cost of gasoline rather than a much larger ratio like in Virginia.

I've no idea what it is like in Puerto Rico, but I was
referring to the impracticality of ever having charging
points in many locations.

Here many city houses and roads were built before people
even had shared vehicles - and that includes horse drawn
vehicles, let alone bicycles.

In some places the shape of properties built within the
last century were constrained in 1086, i.e. 935 years ago.
Yup, the shape of housing estates was determined by the
shape of fields in the Domesday Book :)

Rural charging stations would be easy. Just use diesel generators.

Ricky missed the point... Bitching and moaning about the original poster
is at best pointless. Don't like it, don't participate...

Speaking of electricity prices in Germany...

Why is Germany destroying its nuclear energy?

Preparing to start another war?

All this switching to electric - and not just for cars - will require
generation capacity from some source and nuclear is the obvious
candidate. I wonder if the Greenies considered that conundrum.

They aren't stupid. Albert Einstein made nuclear energy possible. He also
fled Germany. With his allegiance, they probably would have ruled the
world. Their current rejection of nuclear energy has at least two possible
motives, disregarding the pseudo-idiotic Fukushima excuse... Hatred for
traitor Albert Einstein. But the most likely is preparing for war. Nuclear
reactors are easy targets. What other motive makes sense? In reality,
there is no chance Germany destroying its own nuclear energy is a reaction
to Fukushima.

It has noticed that renewable energy sources provide cheaper electricity, even when you figure in the grid storage required to deliver power when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing.

Probably not.

Only to people who are as ill-informed as Cursitor Doom and John Doe. Solar cells only became the cheapest source of electric power a few years ago - some people at the University of NSW invented a high output solar cell which could be made cheaply, and the Chinese invested the money to mass produce them in ten times the volume that anybody had before, which halved the unit price. Australian utility companies won't now invest in any other power source, which is up-setting Australia's mining interests, who are leaning on Australia's more right-wing politicians to try to get them to change their minds - which is a bit silly.

It was mentioned in a tolerably prescient paper in the Proceedings of the IEEE some forty years ago.

George Monbiot's "Heat" - published in 2006 - is the kind of thing Greenies would read

https://www.monbiot.com/books/heat/

so the answer is the Greenies have considered the point, even if Cursitor Doom has only just woken up to it.
