It's easy to be generous with other people's money and those
politicians who have never had *proper* jobs in the *real economy*
have no concept of the sums they're spending and how that spending can
be sustainably funded.
Anyway, at least we get a breather from war for a while (probably not
long if history is any guide, but let's try to look on the positive
side).

The days of conventional invade-and-hold-ground-with-troops by the
superpowers with respect to these 3rd world countries may be over. There
are many other places the US is waging war but unofficially. If you
never officially invade or declare a war, you can never be strictly
speaking "defeated."

You're only around to provide "economic assistance" and "humanitarian
relief" but your long-endurance AI drones are circling around day and
night ready to rain Hell down on anyone who pisses you off. Or your
hypersonic fractional orbital bombardment system is sitting in space
locked and loaded. The people know they're there just waiting, but not a
thing they can do about it. it can be a powerful psychological motivator
to get folks to see things your way.

Ground troops and poorly-trained "security forces" never really scared

Sounds like someone he knows or knew was raped, maybe. I know a woman
who was raped many years ago and she was eventually able to move on from
it and is doing rather well these days, and didn't blame the world for
it. Only one mf-er to to blame who is now in prison and thankfully
doesn't look like he'll ever be coming out.

How true! The only people to have emerged from this long, drawn-out
debacle considerably better off than before are those purveyors of
death and destruction known as the MIlitary-Industrial Complex. I
