Dictators rule the entire region from Jordan to Afghanistan. Whether it's a monarch or Saddam Hussein, this is what works (sadly) for these people. Give someone the finger in Saudi Arabia and you'll get it cut off. All of this shit about America being the world police and being the missionaries for democracy (or protecting us from terrorism that we actually created with our meddling) is the real problem. Everybody knows that the United States has an antique constitution that doesn't work very well.

The 1948 German constitution was constructed with American collaboration (amongst others) and avoids the well-know defects of the US constitution.

I got taught about them in secondary school, during our history lessons about the Australian constitution, which - like the Canadian cosntitution - explicitlyl avoided the known defects of the US constitution.

Actually they don't. They do try to get the governments they set up to act as if they are reasonably democratic, but that would take going in and removing any politician who was behaving badly, and that would be most of them.
