I read the Food and Drug Administration could grant the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine full approval Monday. If the vaccines are no longer "experimental" does that mitigate your issues with getting a vaccine?

I know someone who does. She is an otherwise seemingly intelligent person.

I recall a conversation where she was spouting point after point without discussing any of them, all sound bites. I tried drilling in on one sound bite by asking a question. She gave a semi-rational response. I asked another based on that and continued to listen to the response to find where the disconnect was. Finally we reached a point where she could see the fallacy in the original point. But then she immediately spouted another sound bite and we repeated the process. We did this a total of three times, each time she came to the conclusion the original sound bite was wrong based on her own answers to simple questions, yet she could not let go of the idea that the source of those sound bites was speaking gospel.

When Limbaugh was under attack for telling others to not leave in the face of a hurricane when he, himself did leave, I dug around for his show. Turns out they have transcripts of his show on the web for you to read. The show in question was there and he did rant and rave about over charging for water and other necessities, but only in the final days before the storm hit when it was so hard to get transportation. The high prices in the supermarket were mostly due to the high costs of getting supplies trucked down the peninsula. But I did not find one word indicating people should not evacuate or find shelter. So there were times when Limbaugh was maligned.

But mostly Limbaugh ranted and raved to work up people's emotions rather than explaining anything to them. People feel emotion and it sticks. No amount of logic can change emotion. Just look at the responses in the thread about acceleration. It can't be explained any more simply than a = f / m, but people keep insisting acceleration is determined by power in the face of all logic. Pure emotion.

Some time back I came to the realization that all human thought is based on emotion. Some of us learn to tie our emotion to logical reasoning, but there are always grey around the edges of black and white. So any of us can err in our supposed logic when non-logical emotion creates enough background "noise" to flip a bit. In some people the non-logical emotion runs rather high.

The Indian stats are a whole lot less reliable than the Belgian and New Jersey stats. The Indian Covid-19 death numbers are thought to be underestimates.

They do register deaths pretty reliably, but there aren't all that many doctors around in the villages to fill in the cause of death all that reliably.

It probably will get full approval on Monday. My objections are more philosophical.

1. Why is there no discussion by the FDA about comparing vaccinated people to those who have already had Covid. I cannot get past this point. Why should 30-100 million people be required to get a vaccine that is likely of no value to them.
2. The government has told many lies throughout this. It does not matter if you perceive them to be lies. All that matters is whether each citizen has a fundamental right to asses whether they are being lied to and whether they have the right (human dignity) to act upon what they perceive to be in their own best interest.
3. The use of the argument that not taking the vaccine gives other people Covid. That is pure manipulation. I hate manipulation.
4. The notion of telling people they cannot operate as a proper citizen if they do not get the vaccine when the death rate is incredibly low. And if you process the death rate in terms of lost years of life instead of lost lives it is even more so
5. the lack of transparency about the side effects of the vaccines.
6. The total narrative shift of "Bad BigPharma" to not a single criticism allowed of Big Pharma.
7. The censure ship of criticism of the vaccine
8. The "My Body My Choice" argument. I have listened to this chant for 40 years. 40 years. 40 years. And now nobody can see the irony of someone objecting to getting a substance injected into them under the argument of "My body my choice"
It really show how shallow and how easily brainwashed we have become as a nation.

9. Regarding the argument that we have all taken vaccines for decades without objection:
This vaccine is a different beast and no proper testing ha been done on it. We are living an experiment which is validated because if the outcomes are not predicted ahead of time then we are (by definition) in an experiment. Did anyone say that if you take the vaccine that in 6 months you will still likely get Covid. Nope! If they are making any comparisons between the outcomes of the vaccines offered then we are by definition in an experiment. All the other vaccines (excluding flu shots) target a virus that is known and stable and that society had seen for centuries the ravages of. It is very easy to mentally want a polio vaccine when you see little kids crippled by it. It is harder to accept a vaccine that does not really provide protection from getting the disease and the ramifications of getting the disease are really not all that bad, especially for younger people

Why are you hung up on those relatively few people compared to the much larger number who have not taken the vaccine AND not been infected? This appears to be you just digging in your heels. Have you been infected? When was your infection? Was it diagnosed by a doctor or are you like Larkin, self diagnosed?

The question is why you don't want to take the vaccine, not if you have the right which is a separate issue.

That's not the argument. The argument is that not taking the vaccine allows the disease to continue to spread through the population which prolongs the disease on top of harming many of those who do contract the disease. Do you not understand the difference?

First, if you consider 0.2% of the population of the US and 2% of those diagnosed with the disease to be "incredibly low", we have fundamental differences in our definition of the word "low", or more importantly, our sense of the importance of lives. I suspect this actually is more of an issue of my thinking how I don't want to be infected and you thinking you won't be infected or harmed because that happens to someone else.

What lack of transparency? There is plenty of discussion on it. You only need to look.

Here is the bottom line, we see many, many people harmed and/or die of this disease with only 30 million infected. With over 150 million fully vaccinated we can count on our fingers and toes the number who MAY have been killed by the vaccine. The "evidence" of greater harm comes in the form of videos like the good doctor Brooks and publications that don't say what they are reported to say.

Because the vaccines in use produce antibodies to a version of the highly conserved Covid-19 spike protein, and natural infection produces antibodies to larger, chunks of the viral capsule which change more from one strain to another. Covid-19 kills people - of the order of 1% of those infected if they haven't been vaccinated against it. Another 10% seem to suffer from "long Covid" which does seem to be disabling. You do do seem to be pig-ignorant.
