There is also the point of interaction, you still need the human-human interface
at times and especially in practice,
We had a school lab for electronics.
You cannot possibly have all the equipment at home
Same for physics lessons, same for chemistry lessons, you need a lab.
we had an auditorium where experiments were shown.
And lesson in welding, using a lath, what not.
For this reason now university here is open again after lock down and online only.

Fair point, but there are purely academic subjects like mathematics
and foreign languages which would be better taught by securing the
services of the cream of the online tutors - at a very substantial
cost saving indeed, even if you paid them half a million a year for
the privilege.

Face to face interaction goes a lot faster than Zoom contacts. People are sensitive to nuances of expression and voice quality that don't make it over a video link.

You didn't understand the evidence you presented. The discussion was about K-12 education, where your article rated Utah as 21st, not tenth (as you claimed).

The US news report isn't explicit about the way it constructed it's score. The nice thing about looking at money spent on education is that it's worked out by accountants.

When reporters start concocting score sheets you've got no idea what they are looking at or how they weight the various components they combine , but you can be pretty confident that they can come up with a result that their editor will like.

Probably not. Teachers interact with the students, and pick up on their individual misapprehensions and correct them, student by student. It's time consuming and expensive, but it does work, if the class sizes aren't too big.

But video links don't provide a particularly good medium for interaction. Face-to-face interactions transfer a lot more information than you can get through a video link.
