He describes Germany's move away from nuclear power as "totally
repugnant".

He notes that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports 28 new
states wanting to embark on nuclear power programmes while worldwide 400
nuclear plants are in operation in 33 countries, with new ones are being
built in 13 countries, including the UK, Finland and Slovakia. At the same
time, Rolls-Royce is developing small reactors as are Argentine, Russia
and China while US President Biden is also having the technology
researched.

Joe Biden gets it, but Germany doesn't...

Germany is not stupid. They don't want the old technology, they want someone else to invest the trillions necessary in the smaller reactors, before they buy the finished commodity product.

They're using the Terra Power technology developed before U.S. terminated the collaboration on the grounds of ,technology transfer law violations.

Germany was led by a women (mUrkel or something) who - just like the one in the Tom and Jerry cartoons -
jumped on a chair and cried 'NUCLEAR' "go get the mouse"...
Now Tom (the cat) seems to always fail and Jerry (the mouse) wins.
Apart from mUrkel being a CIA agent with the task of preventing Germany to make a decent BOMB from the reactors
when Fuckupshima happened she finally managed to pull off the CIA plot to stop Germany from having the BOMB.
She also managed to gets millions of non-educated low IQ import climate refuges into the land
and you see what happened. <Poor creatures need help> fear used as motive to stop advancement, easy to manipulate.

So mUrkel is leaving now after conversation with Putin and her follow up maybe AFD will get back to the work
and maybe align with ?? to rule the world again as it should.

Evolution ... I wonder where all the climate change will go, but Russia could be more livable than middle Europe.
They also have a lot of Xperience with nuclear and even seem to be testing a nuclear cruise missile with unlimited range.

Will tourist visit the remains (shot of planet of the apes movie comes to mind) of the statute of gliberry or whatever
one day like now you can go to Mexico and admire the ancient pyramids....

Will future civilizations be able to see how earth was from far away by telescope
Can you bend time to see how it will be in a few hundred or a few thousand years?
Not so sure about that, but logic allows you to see a lot though.

Jan does seem to see a lot - mostly stuff that isn't actually there. Quite what he means by "logic" isn't clear - "hallucinations" would seem to be what is required to let him see what he seems to think he sees.

The Greens don't want plentiful nuclear energy because they don't want
plentiful energy at all. They want to force us back to some more
primitive time.

And of course they want power (not electrical power!)

These are "The Greens" that show up in John Larkin's climate change denial propaganda. I've never seen any actual Green say anything of the sort.

When I challenged Steve Pinker about a similar claim in one of his books, he said he hadn't either, but lots of people he ran into thought that they had.

It's totally nuts. Going over to solar cells and wind farms now gives us cheaper electricity than you can get from burning uranium or fossil carbon, and we aren't going to run out of sunlight anytime soon.

> And of course they want power (not electrical power!)

As opposed to the climate change denialists who merely want money, and the power that that buys.

The Greens and regular people in general have a more realistic
assessment of the actual risks of nuclear power than its most vociferous
proponents, some of whom "know no fear" (out-of-touch with reality.)

A lot of venture capital definitely do know fear, too, and there's
easier money to be made elsewhere.

> And of course they want power (not electrical power!)

Nuclear fission has never made a dime of net profit in pushing 70 years;
enormous money-pit not much different than manned spaceflight. The only
way it looks like it has is because the public gets to eat every "loss."
Endless promises it never delivers on.

Nut not impaired enough to build a bunch of reactors of dubious quality,
put them under criminally incompetent management, and call this
kickback-riddled money-laundering operation the future.

France has about 70% nuclear for its electricity, think it is at the top.
I was there many times, am still alive :-)

Every year hundreds if not thousand die in coal mining
seas and land get polluted by oil
Millions get severe illnesses from the polluted air / smoke / water.

I did not die from the Chernobyl fallout here.

But who knows:
https://www.rt.com/news/533045-fukushima-nuclear-plant-undersea-tunnel/

But wildlife flourishes where Chernobyl was.

Our body does a good job at repairing DNA itself.
That is why we, and other species are still around after having been exposed to much higher radiation levels in the past millions of years.

We all live in a yellow^H^H^H^H^H^Hnuclear submarine ??

Also sees about 40% of their yearly fresh water go to cool their
reactors before it gets to just about anyone else downstream. Yet
another strike against fission is how water-hungry it is, unless one
believes the world is actually cooling off and much more fresh water
than is around now will become readily available very shortly. Either
way the water is definitely not free and you need lots of it.

Yeah you can put them by the ocean which has its own set of problems
including in large countries the losses involved with having to send the
power a thousand miles inland.

Yeah, in the US these hustles often tend to involve the same scumbags...

Take your pick "Real America", can have your tax $$$ go to make cheap
power for the "coastal elite" like me or they can build them all in your
neighborhood and suck down every spare drop of fresh water you have. And
I'll still probably get cheaper power out of the deal b-b-b-balla. Just
hope they know how to grow food without H2O out there.

I expect they're looking into using something other than water as a
coolant, they don't have a lot to spare:

80% of China's land is either mountains or desert not cost-effective, or
totally unsuitable to build a conventional fission reactor on.

Fission is also useful in molten-salt reactors that are NOT water-hungry.
So, that's a straw man argument unless we persist with 1960s-era light water
reactors only.

I'd be happy to see a viable model produced as anyone, but so far the
molten-salt tech got problems.

How come? Either nuclear, coal or oil are used to produce steam
that drives the turbines that rotate the generators. They all
need to cool their condensers. They all need a lot of water.

Yes. They can use high pressure CO2 and don't need water. They can run
anywhere they are needed, even in the desert.

Molten salt can use high pressure CO2. See my other post for reference.

The medium is not the issue. The issue is that the efficiency of
a thermal engine depends on the temperature difference between the
hot and the cold side. If you skimp on cooling the cold end, the
efficiency will suffer.
