The official weight on my football stats was 212. I worked my weight
up to about 230 in the years following college by weightlifting, which
was about what I was when the infamous picture was taken with my wife
in Mexico.

I was 202 this morning, a couple lbs lighter because of yesterday's
bike ride.

Probably the best method is to always weigh yourself first thing in
the morning before eating. Get up, wash or shower and weigh.
I'm bragging :-) but my weight hasn't varied, up or down, more then 1%

With the storms here I've been going to the gym about five times a week.
They have a scale there but I've never used it. It's very difficult to
lose weight by exercising, you really have to limit your calorie intake.

They have very good free coffee as well as good showers so that's one
additional benefit.

The problem with "going to the gym" is that (I'm assuming here) most
weight lifting exercises don't burn many calories. And other exercises
really don't burn many relative to common U.S. "goodies".
Running - 10 minute mile - 566-839 calories/hour.
Big Mac with cheese, Fries and a coke = 1100 calories :-)

I mainly use the elliptical and the rower. I will sometimes use the
weight lifting equipment but usually head to the outdoor whirlpool after
an hour of exercise. Yes, as I pointed out you're unlikely to burn
enough calories doing exercise to have any weight loss. You have to give
up the carbs and sugar.

For me, Garmin provides that graph. I mostly stuck to 'weigh myself
every three months' but it the weight was unexpected, weigh myself again
next day.

When I shifted back to daily bike commuting to the office last year, I
unexpectedly gained 5 pounds, possibly due to the free office lunch,
possibly due to taking several deserts when I thought that would be OK
to due to increased exercise.
6 months later, a Covid episode with 5 days in bed eating more or less
nothing got me rid of thouse pounds over the christmas days ;-(
and then I weighed myself daily for a week to see how weight stabilized.

An hour in the whirlpool or the sauna is an hour in which it is nearly impossible to eat donuts. Huge benefit for the willpower challenged!

In the winter my weight rises because I get little to no exercise during the raining periods or last year to the three weeks of having covid-19 and the time it took to feel normal again before I resumed riding. The illness itself was only three days. But this rain has been going on almost continually for 3 weeks and I simply don't have the patience for riding a turbotrainer.

I cannot have a container of Oreo's around or I eat the entire thing. So I simply don't buy them except as a very occasional treat. My wife doesn't like my cooking all that well and so I tend to cook to her tastes more than my preferred heathier ones.

True. Though the gym has a very good cafe which has several
not-so-healthy offerings though a lot of healthy stuff as well. But no
donuts. When I saw a friend there with his kids, they were eating French
fries and cheese quesadillas from the cafe. It's so expensive that I
have not been tempted to buy anything there.

It must feel awful when people won't even invite their hungry former
mayor for a little quesadilla snack, whatever it might be!

Arnie should set up an Austrian McD at your decadent gym:
You can order a "Happy Meal" consisting of a hamburger, a tomato-less
snack salad, carrots, and a 1/3L bottle of sparkling mineral water.
That's the carrots,
<https://www.mcdonalds.at/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/vitaminkick-karottenherzen-hero.png>
but you can choose an uncut, unpackaged, organic apple instead if you
don't mind the extra 50 kcals of carbs.

When elected and challenged by tasty bits at every occasion, a former
Austrian president, iirc the one who had a similar family name as yours,
reportedly used his daily scale-check's "a kilo too much" rule to not
eat for the day, but it's hard to image he'd also skip creamed coffee.

LOL, they did share their food with me but he was not someone that was
one of my former constituents. That cafe does have a lot of healthy
options <https://order.chownow.com/order/10024/locations/13743>. It's
really not all that expensive considering how restaurant prices have
increased in the past few years.

The hospital that I was born in in Florida used to have a McDonald's
on-site but the lease ended in 2014 "3 hospitals rapped for McDonald's
in lobby."

While we did not get paid for our service to the city, beyond a tiny
stipend, the council members often were invited to events that had very
good food. Probably the best meal I ever ate in my life was at the
Japanese Consul General's home in San Francisco. Here is the menu

Some years back the French ambassador came to our area on the East Coast, I have no idea why. We aren't that far from DC, maybe he had business.

The event was at some fancy resort hotel, and a local symphony was engaged (not hired) to play for it. They were short a trombone and I got the call. We weren't paid but we were fed, and they must have had an awesome chef. That's still one of the best meals of my life.

I got in 25 miles yesterday and in the evening cooked spar ribs and wilted greens and caramelized onions. Even with the cheap wine, I slept like a baby last night. I had dreams of how difficult it is to televise the Tour de France.

You're lucky. My friends and I were once hired to play for a very fancy
"farm to table" gig at a local resort. We got to hear the chef describe
each course in detail, followed by the sommelier describing his choice
of wine for that course. Oh, and we were nicely complimented by many of
the guests.

Then, when it was all over, they led us downstairs and let us eat some
lukewarm beef cheeks and pizza outside the kitchen. :-/
