It doesn't automatically follow - my grand-daughter (3 months old)
LOOKS entirely white though her maternal grandfather is Vietnamese.

It will be interesting to see if she still appears that way in 10 or
more years time. Me? I mostly hope she's healthy and smart as hell and
given her heritage the odds are good.

There's a passage in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that's
something of a live wire in this respect:

"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the
privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor
shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or
property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

The first part of the passage is applied only to "citizens," but the
second part is applied to any "person" without national distinction.
Presumably this means that neither foreign tourists, resident aliens,
nor even illegal immigrants may be robbed, beaten, or murdered with
impunity.

However, in practice, U.S. immigration law and the enforcement thereof
are reportedly Byzantine, capricious, corrupt, cruel, and some argue
unconstitutional in many aspects. Kids as young as three have been
required to represent themselves in court without counsel, and such
abuses of common sense as well as basic humanity have been going on
across multiple presidential administrations and iterations of Congress.
