The most accurate calculation of pi to date was made by Swiss researchers on
19 August 2021 using a super-computer. The team calculated pi out to 62.8
trillion digits (62,831,853,071,796 to be exact).

I'm sure they could have gone farther but they stopped when they suddenly
realized the computer was being racist by performing accurate calculations
using white-centered algorithms.

I remember a short sf story in which researchers got billions of digits
into pi and discovered that the digits formed messages and pictures.

The only way I can conceive of 2 + 2 = 4 being offensive if it's being
used as a put-down with the unspoken text of "every dummy knows THAT"
but I've never heard of it being used that way.

However the world is a big place and I haven't been in the Deep South
in 20 years so who knows what people are doing to each other these
days.

Any idea what the "Swiss researchers" were researching? Some learned
treatise on mental masturbation maybe?

I *think* it's alleged to be, "Every dummy knows THAT fact, despite
blacks' transparent attempts to reduce it to mere cultural opinion."

Heh heh heh

What I've heard is that such calculations are preferred as a way of
testing a compiler's capacity to handle floating point calculations.

And if it happens to get the compiler authors some extra positive
publicity that's icing on the cake

From the Dailymail

"The concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally
false,' reads the manual. 'Upholding the idea that there are always
right and wrong answers perpetuates "objectivity."

I don't understand this at all. To function in a modern society a
person has to be able to do accurate calculations in order to do basic
things like balancing a checkbook or putting together a household
budget. A checkbook is balanced or isn't. Basic life skills, like we
should be teaching in school require the ability to accurately perform
mathematical calculations.

Nope. We have to look to how oppressed you are to determine if your
checkbook is balanced or not. The more oppression points you have, the
wider the margin of error you're allowed in your calculations.

Three guests check into a hotel room. The manager says the bill is
$30, so each guest pays $10. Later the manager realizes the bill should
only have been $25. To rectify this, he gives the bellhop $5 as five
one-dollar bills to return to the guests.

On the way to the guests' room to refund the money, the bellhop
realizes that he cannot equally divide the five one-dollar bills among
the three guests. As the guests are not aware of the total of the
revised bill, the bellhop decides to just give each guest $1 back and
keep $2 as a tip for himself, and proceeds to do so.

As each guest got $1 back, each guest only paid $9, bringing the
total paid to $27. The bellhop kept $2, which when added to the $27,
comes to $29. So if the guests originally handed over $30, what happened
to the remaining $1?

That's because you're probably a racist or a homophobe or... something.
Regardless, you should apologize!

Agreed - and getting major calculations on construction projects
causes bridges or buildings to collapse neither of which helps the
cause in any way.

I happen to be an old math major who thinks 'objectivity' aka "getting
it right" is rather important and when we do our tax filing in the
next couple of weeks I suspect the tax authorities will feel the same
way.

(I could be pleasantly surprised but I doubt it)

So if my checkbook balance looks like Donald Trump's you won't be at
all suspicious?

Hmmm. I think I'm going to have some good times ahead!
