As it happens Dave, I’m outside the U.K. right now. In Mexico, as it
happens.

So as a U.K. TV licence holder in good standing, I logged into my BBC
account and fired up iPlayer.

Whenever I tried to watch a programme - any programme - or even a trailer!
- one of the two following messages occurred:

“Sorry, this content can only be played within the UK.”

Or, more rarely,

“Something’s gone wrong. Exit the video and try to restart the programme.”

So I used my web browsing skills and typed into a search engine “iPlayer
outside UK”.

After a couple of ads for VPNs I found this BBC link.

In other words, Dave, no matter what you’ve been told or want to believe,
unless you are a UK TV licence holder who is physically located in the UK,
it is ILLEGAL to access most programmes provided on BBC iPlayer. I’m not
personally bothered if you do use a VPN or a grey streaming service to
bypass the restrictions, but do be aware that both you and they are acting
illegally if you do so. And stop trying to deny it. Confess it as a sin to
your pastor weekly.

There’s also a new and litigious monster in this equation when it comes to
Doctor Who: DISNEY own the rights to show new Doctor Who content outside of
the UK. They are likely to come down hard on grey streaming services
stealing “their” content.

We saw the fugitive Doctor doing a _very_ similar double-bluff
with a rigged gun. If this wasn’t just lazy writing on Chibnall’s
part, it might be deliberate to imply that her alleged crime was
something similar to what Seventh did in Silver Nemesis and
Remembrance.

(Both those stories also imply that the Doctor’s past isn’t what
it seems, maybe making it more likely that this was deliberate.)

unsatisfactory and lazily written - but ending the mutant spiders is pest
control in the true sense - they weren’t a sentient species and should
never have existed in the first place. This episode is a poor low stakes
retread of The Green Death but I don’t see Aggie complaining that the
Doctor shared the secret of the fungus that killed off the mutant maggots
and flies there …

Good point, but the warning not to use it feels like an elaborate
bluff. The Doctor secretly wants the baddies to use the
Hand and/or Nemesis to destroy themselves. And he doesn’t
actively do much to prevent them.

This was one of the main objections from fans who didn’t
like the McCoy era. Cartmel had created the Dark Doctor
who was no longer recognisable as the Doctor. (The whole
Frocks vs. Guns schism in fandom.)

Yes, the scripts did try to give the Doctor a figleaf of moral
subjectivity to hide behind, but genocide is a very tricky
subject to be subjective about! I don’t think they succeeded.

willingly and wholeheartedly assisted Tekteun in committing

As I said above, the fact that the Nazis who helped to exterminate the

exonerate them from their crimes and neither does it exonerate Martin

Division just like the Nazi concentration camp guards that fled at the
end of WW2 were complicit in the holocaust. Martin fled the Division and
was captured by them and had her memory erased and turned into baby
Hartnell. She wasn't fleeing from her crimes. We already know her
crimes. She was fleeing the Division after she decided she didn't want
to commit any further crimes. Saying sorry didn't exonerate the Nazis
from the holocaust, and neither does it exonerate Martin and Whittaker
from universal genocide.

to redeem himself and atone for his previous actions could
actually be great stuff if they were written well.

But, leaving that aside...

We just plain don’t know what the Division’s crimes were.
All we’re told is that they broke Time Lord law by interfering
in history. That’s all. Nothing more. No mention of ‘universal genocide’.

And the one time we see the Doctor on one of those interfering
missions, in the flashbacks in Once, Upon Time, she doesn’t
commit any genocide at all.

As I stated in the other post, Tecteun isn’t even mentioned
in Whittaker’s final episode. She certainly doesn’t pop up
implying things.
