I don't know about "American produced", but the new series is supposed
to be starring John Cleese (and his real-life daughter) and is
basically a sequel series set 40-odd years after the original.

Americans already tried a few times to do a remake of Fawlty Towers.
"Snavely" (1978), "Amanda's (by the Sea)" (1983), and "Payne" (1999)
.... and, like all American remakes of British comedy shows, they were
all horrible! :op

Reboots, remakes, and resurrections almost never work. Different times,
different people involved, etc. means you can't recapture that
"lightning in the bottle" that made the original what it was.

Even John Cleese is saying the new Fawlty Towers show won't be as good
as the original!
